Because the building itself looks like a spire. And it's in Chicago. Hence the name, "Chicago Spire."

In the real sense the map scales are different -be it verbal, basic or whatever. The measurement is totally different from a general point of view (cars size is a good testament from those images).

The zoom varies by the resolution of the images. The images used for the US are of a higher resolution then the ones used in the middle east. Therefore the two "zooms" I used represent 2 different altitudes. If you want a measurement with the altitude, Google Earth is the way to go.

Eather way, this still does not change what I've previously said, nor the facts of my statement.

My comment didn't object to your statement in any way. I made that remark based on what I saw on those two images you presented. I think Chicagospire best utilized its land compared to Burj when the importance of land well used is put into prospect.

Nama to leave out Anglo’s US loans
20 September 2009 By Richard Curran and David Clerkin

Anglo Irish Bank is set to exclude almost all of its €10 billion US loan book from its transfer of assets to the National Asset Management Agency (Nama), in a move that will pave the way for a quick sale of these loans to another institution.

The nationalised bank - which ramped up its US lending activities from €1 billion in 2004 to €10 billion this year - has received approaches from a number of potential buyers of the loan book, which consists primarily of commercial property investment loans in New York, Chicago and Boston.

...It is unclear whether some high profile Anglo loans, such as the facility it provided to developer Garrett Kelleher for work on the proposed site of the Chicago Spire, will be included in the Nama transfer.

lol i really think the skyline looks better without the spire... it looks good but not when it's the tallest thing in the city imo. it'd look much better surrounded by other buildings.

Does anybody know what probable impact a sale of the loan for the work on the spire site has? (referring to the article posted by spyguy)

He's back--not MJ, SC (Santiago Calatrava); Spire architect returning to Chicago

September 29, 2009

It's been nearly a year since the news broke that Santiago Calatrava had filed a big lien against Garrett Kelleher, the developer of the Calatrava-designed Chicago Spire. Now, Calatrava is returning to Chicago, though Kelleher is presumably not ready to fork over the millions that the architect said he was owed in fees.

Instead, the Spanish-born Calatrava will be one of the star attractions at an Oct. 7 conference put on by the Cervantes Institute to celebrate the official opening of its new home at 31 W. Ohio St. (corner of Ohio and Dearborn Streets). He'll be giving a lecture titled--what else?--"Beyond the Spire."

I'm told by the organizers that Spanish Crown Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia will be at the Cervantes Center for ceremonies earlier in the day. Calatrava's lecture will be followed by an open discussion with people attending the event. The lecture is at the Cervantes Institute auditorium at 6 p.m. I'll find out later Tuesday if there is an admission fee and whether the event is open to the public.

UPDATE: The Cervantes Institute will offer tickets for Calatrava's lecture to guests attending its morning program with the Spanish royals as well as others on its mailing list. The public is also invited to attend Calatrava's talk and will be admitted provided seats are available. If the institute's auditorium, which has about 160 seats, is full, people will be able to watch the program on televisions in the institute's classrooms.

YESS!! The Olympics should push the Spire over the top for financing too, if they already have some lined up.

What do you think the 2016 loss means for this project?

Just speculation, but I think it is now DEAD and we will hear from Kelleher within the month that he is cancelling the project. Too bad, but maybe in the next boom something more appropriate in scale will be erected on that small lot. The Chicago Spire will just be another of Chicago's tallest "woulda coulda shouldas".
