I routinely pass by this proposed construction site, or atleast near by, so I really hope this thing takes off so we can see it progress. Will the foundation be in before winter?

I saw a rendering about a couple of years ago that showed vertical cuts in the twist. That looked so much more sophisticated than the giant Twizzler it's probably going to be.

The design you saw didn't have enough floor space to make it economically feasible. This one does. And it is still beautiful in my opinion. By far the most attractive skyscraper proposal in the USA.

According to today's Crain's, Kelleher can't run a simple painting business, much less a $1.5 billion skyscraper. Without even selling 1 condo yet. I've been building these for 24 years, and I tell you (again) IT CAN'T BE DONE. Nobody in this city can pour concrete within the tolerances required and you can't make the glass and/or alum. or stainless steel bend in such a fashion to give the true 'drill bit' effect. Maybe we could do like that building that looks like a deck of cards turned every 2 degrees, but the smooth transition - forget it. It would be like trying to glaze a 2000' spiral staircase. The last time - it took our manufacturer 4 tries to get a 2 story spiral staircase right. (at Calamos Investors) Kelleher appears to be more suited to the used car lots on Western Ave., looking for suckers.

Kelleher has said that caissons will begin as soon as the city approves it. The planning commission will vote on it on April 19th. Then the city council will get it early may, they have a couple weeks to decide. I might have them switched, but thats pretty much the time line from what I have gathered from news articles.

Did you bother to read the whole article, because this part should have explained it to you: Mr. Kelleher says his painting company struggled when his former associates ran the business in the late '90s while he was living in Ireland. He says the lawsuits, liens and defaulted loan all stem from winding down the business, which was losing money, in 2001. He didn't repay the loan on time, he says, because there was a question over whether he was responsible for it, and because he was immersed in his development business in Ireland.

"I was 5,000 miles away and I paid," Mr. Kelleher says. "My credibility is impeccable in Ireland and here."

Also, I highly doubt Calatrava would design a building that, according to you, is unbuildable.

not to mention all the millions that have already gone into the process of getting to be approved and under construction.

i can't imagine doing that under speculation. your point is very well taken.

feworkr - I assure you, 100%, this building is perfectly feasible (from a construction standpoint - I'm not here to argue finances). I highly doubt the glass is "bent" as you put it, but, rather, it is, in fact, more like Turning Torso in Malmo where each floor plate is rotated slightly from the one before.

I may be wrong here, but I don't think so. CS is EXACLTY like the deck of cards where each floor is rotated X degrees.

I don't see how that's possible seeing as it was just proposed last summer.

There is also a chance that the project gets deferred off the April agenda

Wow Bvic, where does the time go? Middle-Island was correct, it was June or July of 2005 when Fordham Spire was proposed. I know it doesn't seem like it though.
