I used to work in a condo sales centre, and believe me, I was told to tell people complete fabrications in the hopes of securing any sales. The only people that know if this tower is going to happen for sure is the lender(s), and the developer. The developer/reps/sales team will tell you whatever you want to hear.

That being said however, I believe this tower will eventually be built, perhaps not exactly as illustrated, but something will happen.

He's not being realistic, he has no information that says the project is dead.

Ok saying the project is already dead is a bit far, but i dont see the project picking up anytime soon... and if it doesn't then its prolly gonna die cus costs keep rising.

And what he sayd about profits makes sense... nobody is going to continue to finance this project unless they expect a greater return in the end.. so it all depends on the expected return now, not on whether its a monument, whether they already spend so much they dont wanna quit now nor the olympics.

Yes there is, THE SALES CENTER IS ABOUT TO BE EVICTED! If you can't even sell your potential product, then the product won't exist.

And another thing. If they don't build it soon, the materials in the hole will start to rust and rot. No, it's not dead, but it isn't looking good.

What continually rising costs? You don't think Shelbourne has the money to pay for taxes?? They wouldn't be able to hold on to the site if they didn't at least have that amount of money.

Unlike cars, buildings can actually go up in value. This is a Calatrava tower!

All the stuff that has already been done is in the same form it would be if the building was built.

Onn, I appreciate that you want this tower to be built. I can understand that. It's a beautiful design and it's America's only chance at a 2000 footer perhaps for the next couple of decades. But will you admit that if Shelborne allows itself to be evicted from the sales center, the jig is up?

According to the story you posted, Shelborne has a $10 million investment in the build-out of the sales center. That investment becomes completely valueless if they are evicted. If they lose that $10 million investment over a mere few hundred thousand dollars of rent payments, what does that say about their ability to continue?

I hope it gets built...

It could be a great opportunity for the city of Chicago, it could increase the number of tourists and the knowledge in the world about this beautiful city, and it would increase the prestige and the popularity of Santiago Calatrava, one of the biggest artists-architects of Spain.

Why are people so eager for this project to "die"? Jealous of Chicago?

Nothing in the hole will be part of the final building anyway. The hole is basically nothing but a cofferdam to allow construction of the core. That and a seven sets of piers on the outer perimeter of the building will support it. The rest of the area will be excavated top down to create a parking garage.

So u reported him dam thats really childish.
I dont want this project to die I never said that. Its a great building and i dont think anyone here wants this project to die... and thats not the discussion. We here are talking about whether it will get build or not and it seems like this project is in trouble.

I disagree. Will you want to go to thread that you want to learn more about any project and someone else post totally waste of time post that is very misleading or spamming or bashing forum? No I don't think so.

When will the property market recover in the United States? I live in Sydney, Australia and the commercial and residential property markets are showing signs of recovery and interest rates are going up again.

Why can't Barack Obama send some stimulus money and declare this a project of national significance and get it built. After all it is his home town.

The longer we wait the greater the chance that this will be cancelled. That would be very depressing news.
