You said there is no chance it would be built. Period.

Now, you have zero involvement with the project. You don't have hundreds of millions of dollars. Nor do I. We're nobodies in the world of global development. We don't have any experience with contract negotiations, with investment strategies. With anything, really. Other than a passing interest and enthusiasm in architecture/skyscrapers.

Six months ago, people were begging for this thread to be closed/locked and deleted because the project was completely, utterly dead. Now look where we are.

I'm not saying the Chicago Spire will definitely be built. I'm not even saying it's likely to be built. But you, on the other hand, are saying it definitely won't be built. Based on no evidence, no experience and a mindless conviction that is only going to get people annoyed and you quickly banned, just like Robert, from a forum designed for productive discussion.

Being so smugly confident in something you have absolutely no evidence for is counter to the tenets of SSC. It's not why this forum exists. If anything, because we're all enthusiasts, we should hope everything gets built. We should be pleased no matter what city gets a supertall. The world of skyscraper construction is beautiful and varied, and has no place for some adolescent bickering because you prefer one massive city over another, like it was a sports team or some personal possession. Literally nobody cares that people from NYC think NYC is the best city on Earth. Just as nobody cares that Americans think America is the greatest country on Earth, either. Same goes for every nation and region. We're not children, so stop acting like one.

Wait wait are you saying not all immigrants can buy condos in downtown Chicago... And that Robert is not referring to those immigrants. Ooooh my bad... One might wonder how I could miss such a blatantly obvious truth... Preferably before they commented on it

Couldn't have said it better. Unfortunately staying on topic on this site is easier said than done.

I hope they rebuild this skyscraper, even though it seems highly unlikely

it depends upon your floor and your view. Someone mentioned max at 2000/ft

I actually think it would fit the skyline well.

It's size is good enough, the style and shape is unlike anything else in the city.

Indeed it was but they are now considering resuming it after international residential developer Atlas Apartment agreed to $135m financing

Which is just about enough to build the first five floors, unfortunately.

But is also a lot more than the plot is worth. And also more than a pittance too.

So something will be built there. This wasn't a land acquisition, or a debt buying scheme. Or some refinancing get-out-of-jail-free situation.

Someone wants something built on that site. Will it be the spire as imagined? Nobody knows. But there's far more about this project than, say, the Hudson Spire - which at the moment has far less substance than this one does.

So there's plenty to talk about. And a lot to look forward to.

There's foundations built, architectural plans already drawn up. And a world-class design in place from the start. This project is no longer dead. And while everyone expects years of delays, many hope the thing does get built eventually. And this latest development is a big step in the right direction.

Yeah, it's a step in the right direction, but it's a bit like shoving a 100m sprinter who doesn't start in the back, he'll have moved a meter and no longer be stuck, but he still needs to run the remaining 99m.

On a WAY earlier page I remember reading that the money collected for the 30% sold was not just deposits but paid in full? and that the money was to be held in escrow until the 4th quarter of 2013. I wonder what happened to all that money?

This plot only deserves the Chicago Spire
