Man, imagine if these people were around in the 70s complaining about new Minneapolis development.

I don't think it would ruin the skyline, but it looks a little phallic in some shots.

Maybe so, but Marina City wasn't imposing enough to ruin the skyline's character.

It does look better a little darker, but still ridiculous looking IMO. Wish they'd resurrect the 7 South Dearborn design, instead.

It looks like they forgot to take the tower crane down from the top of 7 S Dearborn.

Personally, I think the Chicago skyline is desperate for a more organic design. If the Spire gets built, it would be a triumph.

Yeah, I agree: it'd definitely be a good thing if the spire gets built; and it might prove a watershed for US scrapers- I hope so.

I also think that this building wins hands down the title: The Tower Most Likely to Bore Wormholes in Space-Time.

At least 7SD doesn't look like it's a drill bit tipping over. Chicago's well formed skyline deserves so much better than that.

"Organic". Like that shredded loofah in Tour Phare. I don't even wish that one on Paris.

Which one You mean ? Please don't tell you like the square better than the twisted tower, even though the Spire is not the most suited but still far more interesting than the other

I don't live in Chicago, but I am a huge fan of its skyline, and I think the Spire is an eyesore (the word for it is "Drilldo") that would ruin it. I'm not "butthurt" about it not being built somewhere else because I wouldn't wish it on New York or L.A. or San Francisco or anywhere else I spend time or care about.

I agree with those who'd much rather have seen a version of 7 South Dearborn here (albeit with a less monstrous antenna):

I'll give the 7SD detractors that much...That antenna looks like it belongs in Tokyo, so Godzilla can destroy it.

I think it fits well. The thing that makes the Chicago skyline spectacular is that the Aon Center, John Hancock Tower and Sears Tower make really good framing devices from a lot of angles. If this tower were near Trump Tower, it might upset the skyline and I could see your point, but it's not. It's situated near the center of the city, almost jutting out in the lake. It acts as a great centerpiece and a framing device at the same time.

You always see people on here blasting 432 Park Avenue and similar developments for being too "bland", and here we finally get a world class, organic design pulled off perfectly that's situated in a great spot and you have people dissing it. I'm have trouble following the logic. Even from the renders it looks fine. Right now the only complaint I've been seeing is that it looks like a giant drill bit/phallic symbol which is something you'd hear out of obnoxious 14 year old's.

No, a 14 year old would probably call it a Twizzler...

To look at it in a positive light, if it does get built, it may not look as out of place as in renderings, as is sometimes the case with a severe design. Hopefully.
