Finally this thread can be put out of its misery.

This was never a serious proposal. The developer was some unknown dude from Ireland. Chicago does not have super high luxury residential demand. The whole project was a joke.

Don't misunderestimate Irish developers. Look at the activity in Ireland during the celtic tiger and you'll see that they are no joke. If it weren't an Irishman the project would never have gotten anywhere.

Is that just a massing concept? Are they going to inherit all the air rights?

IDK it was made like 2 years ago when Related had the site, now they have it again at least we know they want to build big.

BTW when this design was mad the market was a lot worse

Now that the market's coming back perhaps they could raise the main tower to about 1,200 ft. The shorter one could be all luxury rentals. They've got competition with the Wanda tower for condo buyers but Related can get these to market faster.

A separate thread for the Related development can be done or this one can be repurposed like the Waterview thread was.

They're actually quite nice, but it would be good to raise the heights if the market there is getting back , especially of the main tower like desertpunk talks about. Who knows, that might be something they're considering as of now.

I agree Related has done good work in NYC but Related Midwest in Chicago is known for lowering the bar on the design of luxury buildings. 500 N. LSD is a great example of that.

I think they took a measured tone at a bad time in the recovery cycle. As things heat up we may see how high these guys can aspire to. Perhaps not very, or perhaps much higher than before.

Rest in peace, Chicago Spire. Despite you never existing, you were still a great inspiration for all of us skyscraper nerds!

I just hope they can revise the design to make it at least partially deserving of its spot. The massing rendering looks okay for now, though.

desertpunk, don't torture me!

The Spire-haters in the new thread make me sad.
