Isn't that just a concept, like the story suggests? If the X-bracing is visible on the exterior, like suggested in that article, then it might look interesting. The design is quite simple, I like it.

(tinfoil hat conspiracy mode): funny how this site is only blocked by a chain link fence, but Block 37, which was actively used by the public, "had" to have an 8 foot tall solid plywood fence around it for SEVENTEEN YEARS! Could it be that those of us who suggested that Block 37 was meant to be part of a larger plaza were not only right, but that the owner and the City knew it, and feared that if the fence came down the public might demand that it happen? (end of rant)

--on-topic; I like the gherkin-esque design, but maybe with another 10 floors or so. It reminds me of the building on Michigan Ave with the sliced diamond on top; it needed another 10-15 floors to have the right symmetry.

Considering the design of this building is the same as the Spire (2000') you won't be seeing anything taller, nobody wants to tackle the FAA on that limit, especially for a project like this.

Sorry for the bad quality of these pics but I have to share it.

I found these old advertisement of Chicago spire from 2008 NSTP Malaysia newspaper while cleaning my store. Too bad this tower was scrapped

I found this article today! Seems like there is still hope for this project! It might get redesigned but if a skyscraper is built here I'm happy!!! http://chicago.curbed.com/2016/9/7/1...elated-midwest

I feel like this guy is just trolling us with this quote:

Quote:
"Both of these developments will help define Chicago in perpetuity," Related Midwest President Curt Bailey told Crain’s. "Both will impact the skyline, one enormously so. They're important for the city."
We have between now and Spring of next year when they unveil their plans to speculate whether the site making the "enormous" impact will be the Spire site (which would mean enormous height), or the 62-acre riverfront site (which would mean enormous breadth).

Let's just hope its the Chicago Spire site. I think anything else than at least a supertall on that site would be a disappointment. Maybe even a megatall (one can at least dream).

Considering what the foundation laid down was meant to support, anything less would be a sad waste.

Wrong tower. The real one has a thread that isn't in the archives.
