Well, it's definitely begun. Hopefully the weird financial plan will come through.

Unless world war 3 starts or we have another depression in the stock markets I would think this is a pretty dead cert now.

oh yeah btw, I read they were "not interested in groundbreaking, only ribbon-cutting" (or something to that effect), so I guess we will have to see for ourselves when it switches from site-prep to actual construction.

Has anyone seen a Chicago skyline render with the spire included that is not shot from the lake? Most people don't ever see that view(from the lake) except for in photos anyway, so how does it look coming into downtown from the North, South, or West??? I would imagine if you were driving South on Lake Shore coming into downtown, Hancock would actually complement the Spire because it would actually be closer to the viewer than the Spire. Likewise with the Sears and Aon coming into downtown from the South or West. Please post if anyone has seen other angles.

******* great building. only second to the russia tower in design. chitown can take pride in this phenomenal structure being erected right now. may it shine in future opening sequences of married with children until the world comes to an end!

I have a question. Does the FAA (or anyone else) have a law stating that buildings cannot be built over 2000 feet? I've heard this forever and not 100% sure it is true. If it is, it will be pretty cool to always have the country's tallest here.

It just requires more paper work. The former Chicago World Trade Center proposal (that is now dead) got a waiver to it. So it can be done.

I believe after 9/11 Mayor Richard Daily passed a bill that stats to the FAA that no airline paths are to be some mile(s) away from Downtown Chicago. I'm not 100% positive about all the details I remember reading about it in the Tribune years ago. So I don't think The Chicago Spire needed any FAA clearance b/c no planes are anywhere near the Downtown area. Please correct me if I'm wrong though...

So, from the looks of Butler's last shot we've got some more soil-boring tests going on. Why would they be re-testing at this point?
