Marina 101 developer may go higher

Oct 14, 2013

The developer of Dubai's Marina 101 tower - set to be the world's tallest residential tower when it opens next year - has said that he is willing to build an even taller tower.

Sheffield Holdings' founder Abu Ali Malik Shroff said: "In my dictionary, I always say that satisfaction is very bad for your progress. The ambition always has to be in your for you to drive forwards."

Speaking to Construction Week at the recent Cityscape Global conference earlier this month, Shroff said that his "first priority" was to ensure that the $355m (AED1.3bn) Marina 101 tower completes next year.

The building, which contains a 32-floor hotel that will be operated by the US-based Dream hotel brand as well as 76 floors of apartments and serviced residences that can be run for investors by the hotel brand.

It is being built by Turkish contractor TAV and was initially expected to complete in 2012. A series of delays pushed this back to April 2014, and Shroff said that following some redesigns after recently signing up Dream as the hotel operator this would now be pushed back to Q4 2014.

"We have a restaurant on the 101st floor and there has been some design changes with the interior, which has given us around a 3-4 month delay.

"There's a nightclub going to be there."

Twenty meters more sounds cool, I wonder how the crown has changed, maybe it's the same but stretched vertically, or they added a spire, or they redesigned it...

Holy Mother! I have never seen such thing in my life!

HOW MANY MORE ARE THEY GOING TO BUILD IN THIS REGION?
5 MORE, 10 MORE?

Looks like many needles popping from the ground to the skies!
(That's what she said)

What I'm quite interested in is whether those skinny towers from the tallest block, especially Princess Tower and this one, are wider, equally wide, or even narrower than 432 Park Ave.
Are there any stats on this or the Princess Tower regarding the width? Would be quite interesting to see those compared to 432 Park Ave.

What is the height increase you guys are talking about?

The 432 meters high plan has been around for more then a year. What the article posted says, is that the developer asked if the opportunity arises, would he consider building a even taller tower, and he says 'why not' ... which doesn't mean absolutely nothing.

Whaat is there to confirm? yes, the lights on the crane (cranes, before the 2nd one was removed), have always been on. After all, the contractor has never officially abandoned the construction site.

The facade and crown is what makes this building. Without it, it's just a box. A very tall though. It's very striking to me how big the difference on this building is.

To me the facade ruins this building It looks like they messed up near the top. The crown could look good but it could also look postmodernist and kitsch.
