These pictures I made in January, shows well how abandoned the streets are:

However as AltinD said, just one block away from the "highest block of the world" it's quite nice and crowdy:

Yeah, quite frankly, anyone who has ever been around big apartment blocks in his life knows that people who live there don't live their social lives in front of their houses, so complaints about the lack of "street life" around the towers seem pretty odd to me.

The streets are filled with cars, but it still seems somewhat soulless. The bases look too fake, and they should have had more terraces or variation to give it the vibrancy of a major city. But then again, most of them are parking garages so there's not much way to improve it.

Or maybe those photos are deceiving?

This area dont really need soul on street level. Considering that the rest of Dubai marina has alot of soul and is a really nice place to walk around.

But making a park between all the towers with the roads under it would have been really nice. They could do it by elevating it above the street level. abit like they did Between all the Jumeirah Beach residence towers.

One little problem: People in their cars can not see the wonderful buildings clearly.

Believe me, when you're driving in between these towers. You're way too close to see them clearly. Only the bases.

Yes, with a park over the roof, just like the JBR podium

It's a residential area, no "Time Square" there

What I don't understand is that there isn't even a decent road between these multi-million-dollar buildings. Is its purely because of the ongoing construction? But even then they could have made a nice temporary road.

Yes, because of the ongoing construction. Constant heavy trucks with heavy loads traffic, tend to eat the asphalt

Love all the "they should [...]"-posts on this page. I think they should build a couple of megatalls on that street. The views on the lower floors won't be great and there will be no car access to any of the towers, but hey, megatalls, that's what we all want.

A bit off topic, but are there any plans for Dubais' Marina skyline to eventually blend into the Downtown skyline?

I do know there was such a plan before the global financial crisis, and I'm sure in the long run they still have the intention of doing so.
