Consortium begins work on Burj Dubai

Dubai : Construction of Burj Dubai the world's tallest tower has begun, said company officials.
The bid for the work was won by the consortium comprising Samsung Corporation of South Korea, Besix Constructions of Belgium and local Arabtec.

The building is slated to be completed in December 2008.

Arabtec Construction LLC, one of the leading organisations in the construction industry, has been forging ahead in the market with its aggressive growth strategy and its significant expansion plans.

The company's other recent projects include the 21st Century Tower (the world's tallest residential building), Dubai Pearl Movenpick Hotel, Silicon Oasis, Arabian Ranches, The Meadows, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Al Fattan Marine Towers and many more.

Arabtec has also successfully pre-qualified as part of a consortium for the proposed Dubai Light Railway project. With the anticipated value of the Dubai Light Rail project being set at $4 billion (Dh14.69 billion), the consortium collectively known as Metro One will bring together some of the biggest names in the industry, including Bombardier (Canada), Odebrecht (Brazil), Guris (Turkey), Ghella Group (Italy) and Parsons (USA).

Riad Kamal, managing director of Arabtec, said: "It is a great honour to be working on such a prestigious venture with such an excellent team of international professionals who will bid for the region's first mass transportation system. "The Dubai Government initiative is set to be a landmark development that will place the emirate on an international platform for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and its future vision."

The Dubai Light Rail project is about 70 km rail network that will span the business district of Dubai. A maximum payload of 40-50,000 passengers per hour can travel on the railway network, which is set to open in 2009.

just would like to what does "construction started" mean?

does it mean arabtec will continue work from now on?

so probably what we've seen is the real base of the tower

i hate these articles

Altind, those cranes are part of the downtown development surrounding the Burj Dubai. Many projects are expected to rise very soon, including the Burj tower...the area will start getting dense as many contracts are being processed simultaneously.
Dubai lover, the JV (samsung/besix/arabtec) are right now mobilising at site and construction of the basement is expected to begun mid march. The raft foundation is nearly complete with the contractors NasaMX topping out the raft in a few days.
cheerz

Duboy!!! Finally! Why do you keep disappearing like that, its impossible to contact you!? Ever since you mentioned BB's revised plans and then disappeared, i almost went crazy trying to find out more about it. Please leave (PM) an email or something.

Anyways, thank you for the info. Does that mean that soon we'll start hearing announcements of towers in New Downtown other than those by Emaar? If so, is there any more information you can reveal about those contracts?

Btw, where did you see the model of Business Bay's proposed WTB?
