Beautiful!

I like the occasional touch of grit, too.

Parts of it remind me of a Northern English city for some reason!

Not a bad-looking city, but not as beautiful as Munich or as interesting as Berlin.

to me it's the most interesting and beautiful city in germany that i visited, there is a good architectural diversity that i saw in berlin too, but not in these proportions... munich is different, munich has 'landmarks' that hamburg don't have but i didn't find it more interesting and better planned, and buildings look like to be the same in the whole city, i found it quite (little, very little) boring, but good too...

so hamburg is my favourite german city

Tolle Bilder, ich liebe Hamburg.

I like the atmosphere in Hamburg. Very typical, very Hanseatic. It really evokes the German culture and society more than any other city for me.

Beautiful you got to remember tough that almost the entire city was destroyed in WW 2 and so it got a whole lot of reconstruction

I don't like it.It's really too typical, and makes me not comfortable...maybe caused by the weather...

What do you mean with typical?
I love Hamburg, it's my favourite city in all of Germany.
It's so diverse, you got gritty quarters, the elbe, the alster, the crazy rich area of Blakenese on the hills above the Elbe, St. Pauli that never sleeps, the wonderful lively Schanzen-quarter with it's great cafes, turkish life and many students and then the old unique Speicherstadt.

Then there's the new Hafen-city being build and the greatest football club in the world the FC St. Pauli.

It's a city you have to see and smell to get an impression of it. I'm going to live there one day.

It's a very typical german city, and does not have an international look.It looks extremely unfamiliar.I don't think it's diverse.Maybe after your seeing NY,HK,and so many really international cities, you'd never say Hamburg is diverse.

you can't compare Hamburg to NYC or HK, they don't have the same scale, and to its own, hamburg is a really diverse city, when you walk down the street you can see all styles of architecture to every corner, i found it amazing... of course NYC or HK are certainly "more" impressive but they don't evolve in the same world of a 1.5 million inhabitants city...

Idiot!

Why should a city have to look 'international' to be impressive?!

Cambridge in England is a very small but beautiful city and is incredibly impressive. Are you saying that because it's very 'typical' of an English city and not 'international', it is unimpressive?! If so, you're mad. And what is wrong with a city being 'unfamiliar'? In my opinion, the more unfamiliar the city, the better. Why would you want to travel to a city which is exactly the same as the city that you live in?! Madness!

Of course Hamburg is diverse - new and old buildings mixed together. It's almost certainly more diverse than Hong Kong, which consists almost entirely of modern buildings.
