Reminds me how there used to also be a sludge train from NYC that went all the way to west Texas in the 1990s. Sewage sludge was unloaded and dumped in open fields near the town of Sierra Blanca. So if you did a #2 in the tri state area in that decade, a piece of your DNA is in the dust of the Chihuahuan desert now. There was a large failed vacation home community there, and a company bought all the land to turn into a toxic waste site. It was pretty nasty.

Norfolk Southern and New York State begin replacement of key Portageville rail bridge in support of Southern Tier economy

CASTILE, N.Y., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Supporting jobs and the economy of New York's Southern Tier, Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC), the New York State Department of Transportation, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, alongside numerous other supporters, broke ground today on a new $70 million steel arch railroad bridge in Letchworth State Park.

The new single-track bridge – expected to take about three years to construct – will be 900 feet long and located about 75 feet south of the current iron truss bridge, which spans the Genesee River Gorge. NS also will construct 1,200 feet of new track on either side of the gorge to align existing tracks with the new bridge.

Here are some pictures I took back in March 2016 of the Norfolk Southern bridge at Letchworth State Park in upstate New York.

Just a standard beam bridge or something more interesting?

The replacement bridge is going to be an arch bridge. Here is a rendering of it.

This is a view of the current bridge.

The images are from the Department of Transportation page of NY State.

Nice! It's nice to see an old bridge replaced by a better looking one, for a change

Is it going to be a single track bridge or double tracked?

It is single track line so I assume it will be single track bridge.
There is one more interesting pic from NYSDOT:

Former Pennsylvania Railroad position light signals on the Main Line near Portage, Pennsylvania, in November 1998. The “G” plate modified the interpretation of a “Stop and Proceed” signal. Historically, on PRR this meant “tonnage freight trains proceed not exceeding 15 miles per hour, expecting to find train in the block, broken rail, obstruction, or switch not properly set.” Other types of trains regarded this as strictly a “Stop and Proceed” indication.
