I am shocked. I was preparing for a storm if the Dome had got it.
To me Blackpool was the location which would have benefitted the most. East Manchester had the Commonwealth Games, London has got the Olympics, Cardiff has had years of redevelopment around the bay. Blackpool has got nothing and this was the only show in town. I don't think every cmajor city should have a super casino, it should be an effort to get to, seaside resorts to me were the ideal location. I expect Blackpool to launch a judicial review, they are absolutely gutted on TV.

We don't even want it! Give it to Blackpool! How the hell they have concluded that Manchester is the best place for it is beyond me.

Wow
I thought we didn't have a chance? I guess the community advisory group thingy swung it (not sure if i'd have prefered blackpool to win it though)

Very much a testing ground eh?I don't think anyone really saw that coming! I guess the problem with Blackpool is that it would risk becoming a one-trick pony and the casino & nightlife in general would dominate whereas a large city can withstand any impact. Can we categorically state now that the government has a fetish for Manchester?

Well done. I think personally I would have preferred Blackpool to get it, but this is better than Greenwich (or Cardiff, or Glasgow).
Where in Manchester will it be? |

I just thought it that given all the regeneration that has taken place in Manchester over the years, another place that hasn't had the same development should have a chance.

The cynical side of me wonders whether giving it to Manchester is a way for the govt to ensure that the super-casinos are increased in the future.
Now both Greenwich and Blackpool will be pressing hard for more super casinos to be allowed.

Fook me!!!
How did this happen? I am genuinely shocked - for the first time in a long time. Dam shame I didn't bet a tenner on this result yesterday. Obviously in addition to being shocked about this I'm thrilled about the idea. But genuinely do think Blackpool deserved the win. Now remind me what else we get in addition to the casino. Wasn't there talk about a 5,000 seat indoor areana/ice rink and 10 storey hotel alongside the gambling den? |

As I said in a previous post - Blackpool would have all its eggs in one basket if it got it, and the government wouldn't touch the Dome with a barge pole after Prescotts dabblings, and with the Olympics nearby would it be suitable?

Now all we need is the Libeskind rainforest scheme for a great hat-trick!
