I read this thread for news of Leeds Bradford airport. Recently I've had to endure the details of your family history, your dad's war record, the Florida cruise industry, endless repeated and unfunny "17 platform" references and now your bloody journey to what I can only assume was your psychotherapist (who at least gets paid to listen to your ramblings). I've no doubt missed a few of your fascinating digressions.

Please go and bore somebody else.

Slowone (and his friend) are just upset and angry because so far they havent provided a single coherent argument, and they havent been able to refute anything that's been said regarding LBA.

It's Wiggley's outlandish claim that LBA has a catchment of 5 million whilst ignoring the presence of other airports which might attract the same passengers, that doesn't stand the most cursory of examinations.
But none of these airports are showing an increase in passengers, or big increases in routes/flights. LBA is growing at a rate that is outstripping the other localised airports in yorkshire. It is also adding routes that just not available at the other localised ones. If this continues, only LBA will be the airport that offers the biggest selection of flights in a similar way to that EMA does.

That's partially my fault, I encouraged him, but I was being egged on

I fear there are few areas of his life he wouldn't share with us in the name of LBA. We could get to page 300 of this thread and I still wouldn't have found out anything useful about the effing airport. I realised I missed out his holiday plans from my list.

Likely a 34 day South Pacific-Orient cruise with HAL from Seattle, WA. I will fly via either ORD or YVR.

Nice looking place. Has the tourism industry in Croatia expanded a lot in recent years following it's collapse in the early 1990s during the Yugoslav wars?
Nice place indeed, but tourism infrastructure still very poor yet over expensive. Still if to find a private house ("villa") it can be quite nice and (relatively) cheap.

Good news I say.

Fantastic 40 – Jet2.com Unveils Two New Routes for Summer ‘09
22 August 2008

Dubrovnik & Larnaca added from Leeds Bradford International Airport

Jet2.com has today confirmed two exciting new additions to its schedule from Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) for summer 2009, meaning there are now a fantastic 40 destinations available from the region. Yorkshire holidaymakers can now fly direct to Dubrovnik in Croatia and Larnaca in Cyprus.

Today’s launch follows last week’s announcement that Jet2.com will begin services to the Greek island of Rhodes from 27 May 2009 and takes the number of destinations accessible from Leeds Bradford International Airport to 40.

The airline has hinted that there may still be yet more new routes for next year but would not be drawn on specific destinations.

Speaking about today’s announcement, Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com, commented: “Dubrovnik is an especially exciting addition to our schedule as it is the first time that we have flown into Croatia. With its Italian influences Croatia is fast becoming one of Europe’s leading holiday hot spots.

At Jet2.com we are committed to ensuring that holidaymakers in this region have unprecedented choice when it comes to their holiday destination. We now offer a massive 40 destinations direct from Leeds Bradford International Airport – all with great low fares available.

This is only the beginning of the launch of our summer schedule – watch this space for more announcements soon.”

Flights to Jet2.com’s two newest destinations are now on sale. Starting fares include:
• Dubrovnik (Croatia) – from £56.99 one way including taxes (departing 23 May 2009)
• Larnaca (Cyprus) – from £78.99 one way including taxes (departing from 20 May 2009)

A new country to be serviced by Jet2.com is Croatia famous for its miles of magnificent coastline, Mediterranean climate and gastronomic offerings. Over recent years, its popularity as a holiday destination has surged with tourists flocking to take in its culture and varied landscape leading to a booming holiday property market

On the east coast of Cyprus Larnaca offers something for everyone, from sun-soaked-beaches and varied nightlife to history and culture. The popular resorts of Ayia Napa and Nissi Beach are in easy reach, whilst the quieter resort of Protaras is ideal for those wanting to get away from it all. This compliments the twice weekly service already operating to Paphos on the island.

Flights to Jet2.com’s other summer holiday 2009 destinations went on sale last week with more still to come. Destinations and starting fares include:

• Amsterdam –from just £23.99 including taxes (departing from 29th March 2009)
• Dusseldorf – from just £24.99 including axes (departing from 29th March 2009)
• Rome – from just £46.99 including taxes (departing from 29th March 2009)
• Jersey – from just £34.99 including taxes (departing from 23rd May 2009)
• Venice – from just £45.99 including taxes (departing from 2nd April)

So glad to see this thread back on track at last.

Anyway, it seems our chances of getting a Toronto flight back for next Summer have nosedived thanks to Zoom going belly up. Would anyone really want to take the risk in the current economic climate??? My guess is no.

Well are they bust or not? They haven't paid their bills, which is a very bad sign, and their planes are grounded, yet their Chief Exec says they are financially sound!!

However, I would have thought that if we got Toronto back, it would be via Globespan Holidays, who operated from LBA in the past, and did so for just last summer from Donny. They used to use Air Transat, and I think both companies are still going, as I see Toronto flights using the Air Transat flight numbers operating from other airports. So, all may not be lost..........

Both Calgary and Edmonton airports have seized aircraft, Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax airports have placed liens on the equipment. The Canadian government and a lot of private corporations providing services to Zoom (fuel/maintenance/ground handling/commissary etc., have all placed liens on the equipment on the ground in Calgary and Edmonton. In answer to your question, yes, I would say they are bust!

PS:The "layover" hotel used by the Zoom crews in Toronto evicted those Zoom crews who were occupying rooms.

Olbia is in Sardinia, not Sicily

Columbus, you can also get to Stockholm on BMi via Brussels under a new code share agreement with SAS, booking through from LBA. Mind you, being BMi you would have to book well ahead to get a cheap flight. I too would love to see Scandinavian countries on the Jet2 destinations map, and Munich too. The only problem would be when all the chaps (and a few chappesses) come back from the beer festival, they might not be allowed back on the plane!
