i said this is another thread, but the support for France seemed to be pretty poor. Their corner had a good number of empty seats and looked like maybe a couple hundred fans.

Some nations don't travel well. Donetsk is also an accommodation nightmare for fans, and that was France's third game in the city.

The city itself isn't so bad, but there is not a single hotel room available for fans as UEFA block-booked the entire lot for themselves and sponsors (most of whom - judging by the empty seats in the VIP areas - didn't even bother going).

Beautiful stadium. Ukraine should be proud of it.

Immediately after the match sounded beautiful Spanish song on the stadium. Who knows the name of this song?

I say it again and again THIS IS THE BEST STADIUM. Look at that surroundings where else you will see something similar ? This is a complete stadium from all points of view.
Absolutely brilliant.

Irrespective of the courageous Warsaw and Gdańsk efforts, the Donbass Arena would have to be my favorite EURO 2012 stadium, dwarfing other pendants in the 50.000 capacity range anywhere.

The work on the design of the Donbass Arena facade has started. Just like before the European Championship, the stadium will be decorated with pictures of Shakhtar’s players. However, the images will be radically new!

- The main idea of the updated photos is passion and emotions that can be felt on the football pitch. Black stripes on the players’ shirts will be visually made of coal; orange ones will be made of red-hot coal – said FC Shakhtar Director of Marketing & Communications Department Yuriy Sviridov. - Among other things, it emphasizes the club’s historical identity that is connected with the coal industry.

The first images that will appear at the stadium will be those of Yaroslav Rakitskiy and Darijo Srna, and before the game against Arsenal there will be Fernandinho’s photo. In total, the Donbass Arena facade will be decorated with sixteen pictures of our players.

Alexandr Atamanenko: We have increased the number of seats in the stadium

Donbass Arena CEO spoke about the Euro 2012 legacy, preparations for the first match of the season and innovations that are awaiting guests of the venue in the near future.

- Alexandr, it is clear that because of Euro 2012 Shakhtar’s home stadium has undergone changes. Will everything be back before the beginning of the championship?
- Immediately after the last match of Euro 2012, we began to carry out a large amount of work regarding the preparation for the new season. Given the extremely short time, our priority was the bowl and the stadium building as well as surrounding area, which will be involved in the upcoming matches. What kind of work have we done? First of all, the pitch restoration and forming a picture on it - transverse and longitudinal strips that visually form squares. Then, changes regarding configuration of the press box, which was expanded at Euro 2012. Now we have made it more compact, creating in the central sectors of the Zone A lower tier even more seats than it had been before the Euros.

- That is, the stadium capacity has been increased?
- Yes. Now there are 52,187 seats at the stadium! This means that more fans will be able to support Shakhtar in the stands. In addition, a lot has been done concerning players’ zone and that of dressing rooms. Old subs benches and awnings have been brought back onto the pitch. As for Fast Foods, we also returned old equipment. We have redecorated the VIP zone and corporate boxes. We’ve replaced advertising surfaces in the bowl, with branding the venue façade and returning the old configuration of the external part of the stadium.

- During Euro 2012 football fans could enter the stadium using any gates and move freely inside the stadium. Is segregation in the stadium going to be brought back?
- Indeed, at Euro 2012 we had a new format of fans’ segregation. But such an approach is possible only during Euros or world championship matches with a low level of risk. In the club competitions there are other rules and concepts of security. There are clear requirements by UEFA – a minimum of four segregated areas. So, in this regard, we are returning to the previous configuration of the venue. Plus, as before, we will separate away teams’ fans.

- UEFA often mentioned a word “legacy”, that is the heritage that a host country or city gets. What legacy has the Donbass Arena obtained after Euro 2012?
- First of all, tens of thousands of new fans who have visited the stadium. In other words, the Donbass Arena and FC Shakhtar have become more popular around the world. In addition, we were able to explore the best European practices in all areas of the stadium management at the biggest international event. Now we can implement this expertise in organizing the Pitmen’s games. We have learned a lot of new, useful and interesting things. We have new clients and contacts.

- What Euro 2012 innovations are you planning to apply?
- For example, we are working on new graphics of the stadium scoreboard, on additions to the pre-match show as well as Fan Land programme. Also, we already have a very creative design of decorating the stadium wall on the Chelyuskintsev St. I think that when these projects are implemented, the fans will like them. We will also test the new elements of serving food and drinks in some premium clubs. We are working on redecoration of the Fan Cafe interior design. In general, we are in the creative process. As for the material legacy, UEFA has left us their subs benches; we moved them to STB Kirsha.

- After the European Championships the Donbass Arena was reported to be a real contender for hosting Europa League final...
- Yes, we have already discussed with Alexandr Lukyanchenko our submitting a joint bid (city and stadium) to host the Europa League final. The mayor has reacted to it very positively. According to our information, UEFA plans to update the requirements for host cities and stadiums. And we are now preparing a request that they provide us with these requirements. As soon as we get them, we can begin preparing our bid.

- What year?
- Not earlier than 2016.

- And if all goes well, when may UEFA notify us about the Donbass Arena hosting the final?
- It's hard to say. Firstly, it is necessary for UEFA to define their updated requirements. Then we have to do a great deal of work concerning the bid preparation and, most importantly, win the competition.

The stadium is great, but the city of Donetsk is in no way able to host a European club final. It was bad enough with maybe 4000 fans travelling for Euro 2012 games. The idea of the city trying to copy with maybe 25,000 visiting fans is a nightmare.
