What's to say they won't set up the hotel themselves?

I agree that the Birmingham Post headline was a bit misleading but the press release on the Hortons website clearly states that it is just the facade works that have been started. I have not seen any comment from Birmingham City Council.
I have also heard that the hotel element is not viable at present which is not totally surprising considering the state of the economy and the ambitious nature of the scheme proposed. |

Surely it's the Landlord that will be carrying out the renovations, an operator wouldn't foot the bill?

The facade repair works will be done by the landlord. The interior works will also be done the landlord but to specifications agreed with a hotel operator.

I suspect the Mail has got the date wrong for the '1895' picture, that or it isn't actually of Church Street at all. Both the Grand (1876-8) and the Eye Hospital (1883-4) would be present in the 1895 picture.

Dancing on the Edge, which includes many scenes shot in the Grosvenor Suite is on BBC2on February 4th.
There are some great pictures on line of the scenes in the Grosvenor Suite including in this week's Sunday Telegraph. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/c...-the-Edge.html |

Wow! I'm shocked it looks so good inside. I thought it would be falling apart and cost a fortune to restore.

They've been filming 'Dancing On The Edge' recently I think. Bits are shot at the Black Country Museum too.

![]() If it was falling apart back then, they did a great patch up job for this filming then. The photograph is unbelievable, looks like something out of Monte Carlo. To think we may get this hotel restored to this level of grandness is very exciting...a massive plus for the city

When the old scaffolding came down and they were putting new scaffolding up over the past few weeks, you could see what a bad state the brickwork was in towards the top of the building. It really looked bad.
