401 in Canada:

May not be in Europe, but they do exist elsewhere.

The widest section of motorway in the UK is here

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...04141&t=k&z=18

It's actually two motorways parallel plus some distributer lanes - I know it's not 5x5 but it's the biggest section we have so it must count for something! All together there are 17 lanes parallel.

I dont think there are any 10 lane motorways in sweden and thank god for that. If you need 5 lanes in one direction there is something wrong with the transport system.

The only place were you can find five lanes in one direction next to each other in Sweden is on Gröndalsbron, the bridge on Essingeleden through central Stockholm connecting Gröndal and the island of Stora Essingen. Four of these are throughlanes and one is a combined onramp/offramp.

It depends on various factors. For instance, New York doesn't have 10 lane freeways because there are so many parallel freeways, and Atlanta and Houston do have 10+ lane freeways because there is an hub-and-spoke system which combines traffic from a large area onto one freeway. Los Angeles has so many 10 lane freeways because of the population density, like in Moscow.

as for warsaw: a little part of trasa siekierkowska in 2x5, next to marsa interchange, and in future parts 2x5 will be:
modlińska - a little stretch near plochocińska street
trasa toruńska from marywilska till modlińska, and also grota - roweckiego bridge - this trasa toruńska part near marywilska will actually be 2x2 + 2x3 but if it counts...

Not high, but low. With high population density you build efficient metrosystems. In high density areas you dont need a car and therefor no 10 lane motorway.

If you build a city where most people travel by car you have failed. Many cities would have been better off without their motorways, since the motorways only allow people to make stupid choices about where to live.

There aren't any in Romania, and there won't be any either according to current plans (though for the Bucharest-Ploești part of the future A3 4-5 lanes might be necessary for a long term traffic solution).

Though we do have a 9 lane one-way section of road in the capital

You mean they should be shacked up in flats like the commies thought would be best? Wow, the idea of freedom to choose where to live!

You can't stop people from driving and buying cars... What you can do, build other roads and wide them

So all multifamily buildings are commie blocks now?
Of course you should have the choice to live 10 km from the city centre but then you shouldnt complain that the roads are clogged up when you are driving in to town, the more motorways you build that lead in to towns the more congestion you create. Motorways are great in the countryside but not in cities, cities need streets and avenues.

You cant stop them thats true, but you dont have to build roads either you can build tram or metrosystems instead.

There's only one 2x5 stretch in northern Europe (counting NL as Western Europe and Russia as Eastern Europe) as far as I know, and that's in Copenhagen near Ishöj.

The cities is where all traffic centers... But you can build a 12 lane boulevard through a city instead of a 2x3 motorway ofcourse...
