Simply amazing thread
![]() I never knew Hungary had so many hills...I always though of it as mostly flatland. Btw, judging by the size of the ruins, that Benedictine Abbey must have been huge!!! Are there any plans to restore it? |

There are soo many nice places in this country other than Budapest,
but I still not dare to recomend any of these to foreign visitors becouse most of the Hungarian countryside looks as if we're in pre-1990 times (poor infrastucture and (relative) poverty.) It's such a shame. Anyway thanks for the topic, awesome photos! (they should put out a link at the site of the national tourist office, really.)

That's one of the most beautiful places on the planet.. However I've lost my photos somewhere so I remember only frangments from Zalakaros, Hévíz, Keszthély, Sümeg, Balaton lake etc. Beautiful nature and nice towns..

Lake Balaton:
Its length is 77 km (48 mile), width from 4 to 14 km(9 miles),the average depth is between 3 and 4 m.The southern shores of the lake are shallow, while the northern shores deepen quickly. The silky green-yellow water summer temperature around 25 and 27 degrees Centigrade (80 °F).Having bathe, swimming, sailings, riding, hiking in shadowy woods of the gentle slopes of the hills among ancient castles and ruins of churches! National Park, special natural and bird protection areas. During the winter the lake is often covered by ice, suitable for winter sports. image hosted on flickr
