That's not the only building of its kind in the compound. There are another two further north, although those bare closer resemblances to Malay kampung houses (I think; took pictures of the place months ago, so I couldn't remember very well).

THE OLD BUKIT NANAS CABLE CAR
For those who don’t know, there was a cable-car system implemented in the early 1970s up to about somewhere in the 80s. To be honest, I was probably not even born during the period or too young to know and not much information is actually available on the internet.
Today, I purchased an interesting not-so-old postcard of KL showing cable-cars at Bukit Nanas. It says that it was a mix of alternating “bubble-cars” and “cable-chairs”. Would anyone of you here remember where the cables went or how it actually worked? Among the vague reasons for its discontinuation appears to be because the “initial enthusiasm died out” – which appears to be valid in most rides like this. However, could there be a different potential of the cable-car since KL Tower became the star attraction of Bukit Nanas? It may provide a means of getting up to the tower especially if it is connected to existing LRT/ monorail stations and it could improve the overall tourist experience in KL. But there could be negative implications if the project barged into the environment of Bukit Nanas forest reserve and if the cables distract the city skyline or if it is completely unfeasible to rebuild. So, could it be revived? Some pictures I posted this before – I think this is the “Bubble-Car” part. ![]() And this one, I got today – showing the cable chairs. image hosted on flickr

i don't think it should be revived.
we can't bear further land clearing around Bukit Nenas since the precious hill already lost its green part to give way for KL Tower construction.... and if we want this cable car...then, more green will get cut... |

Yup, that is probably the most important concern...There was talk some years back about reviving the Batu Caves funicular train or build some cable-car thing. No idea what happened to that too... |

Also, if that was the station near the Selangor club, my guess is that you would have been able to see bits of Bukit Aman (Bluff Hill) at the back.

This is a famous picture showing what is now Dataran Merdeka. I took the picture below in 2005 (I think) to compare the famous photograph that you posted. The difference is fantastic...![]() Ps: Please post a more recent picture of this angle if anyone has one |
