Now who says Singapore is neat and tidy?? It is so messy just like any other city!! And it has a unique taste to it too!

Messy meh? If you look from top-down ain't. You can't simply judge the neatness of the city by judging the skyline as it has lots of angles to look from, lol.

It's true that your last pano does not quite highlight the effort so characteristic of Singapore's carefully-though city planning... It's a mix of shophouses, 30 floors condos, HDBs, a temple and some construction pics...

Here's another quite atypic shot of Singapore... Where urban density comes to a stop in front of the jungle near Sengkang:

Yes, SW5 Fernvale as in Sengkang West LRT line ;-)
I would have taken some pics of the trains but the camera ran out of battery and my spares were also discharged (again... ought to do something about this).

What are GPs ?
The forest behind is going to be razed to put some more HDB blocks... :-) LRT stations are already there.

Thats because we are looking at what is essentially a conservation area, with shophouses and street widths built when Singapore was under British rule. Hence the mix of old and new, that is quite unlike other areas where street-planning, Singapore style has been implemented. In any case, I feel that the British-style planning was also quite rational and planned-well, but compared with today's standards, looks messy when combined.

I'd say that even the conservation district itself is a deliberate effort to safeguard the streetscape ;-)

Anyway thats a nice and rare glimpse of Sengkang!

I definitely agree! The old shophouses and modern buildings gives Singapore a very special and unique skyline! It isn't very messy and I think they make the skyline look very "mature"! I love it very much!!

I notice from the forum that many people who have not been to Singapore assume that the city is just that cluster...and are quite surprised when shown other views of it.

Here is a riverside view from the Asian Civilisations Museum:

Yep. The exhibition was good but I was disappointed that no proposed dates were put beside each development. Knowing how the civil service works, some ideas might never be implemented or become delayed till the cows come home.

Never tried the free rides though .... should be fun.
