In a decade's time, this place will be occupied by lots of high-rise buildings!

Oh, you can go up there to take pics? Or do you have a membership with fitness first?

Really nice photo! Very calming yet urban

Thanks...took it from Textile Centre, which has protruding staircases on both sides offering sweeping views. The interior layout is also interesting...worth a visit!

Yup. Textile Centre has an interesting layout. I'm suprised the public is allowed up the staircases which I presumed belongs to the private apartments above the mall?

The view is quite similar to what can be seen from Blk 80 in Citylights.

Yes, there is a fire lift which simply opens out on to street level. This is a flaw as anyone can access the building without going through the lobby. I sense that there are lots of Mainland Chinese living in there.

The view on the other side would potentially enjoy the Kallang river, but is blocked by too many flats, of which Citylights would be far superior. This building is 25 floors.

I just had a look at Textile Centre today and I think the staircase on the other side should be able to see across to the Kallang Basin as at 25 floors it is much taller than those flats. The only potential blockage is the 40 storeys Southbanks but that is still quite a low structure currently.

This would be the view taken in later half of 2005 (I hope the pic shows up):

I didn't realise in 2005 the Police Coast Guard patrol boats were still operating in the Kallang Basin. The view has changed somewhat with Citylights up and the Lavender flats repainted. Two years later we would have Southbanks and Riverine added to the view.

Things are changing in the next 5 years I think, once the Rochor-Ophir Corridor, Beach Road and Kallang Riverfront gets more new buildings.

I'll see if I can dig up some other highrise views of the nearby area from 2005. QUite fun to look at 'history' and spot the changes
