Good, another service!
I was impressed at how much theyre cramming into that tiny site. Did you know that Munich International and Sydney handle basically the same amount of passengers yet Munich Airport is at LEAST 3 times larger??? It really pisses me off how ABSOLUTELY BLDY NOTHING is ever done in this city. Melbournurnians go on and on and on and on about their CRAP and tiny airport when us Sydneysiders are stuck with a facility that is at capacity and will hardly be expanded over the next 20 years, but is still expected to handle more than a double in passenger numbers. IT'S CRAZY!!! Our government is so damn CRAP. But they're the best we've got at the moment which really does mean that for a while at least, Sydney and NSW are seriously STUFFED!!! Maybe Melbourne will reclaim the mantle of economic powerhouse of Australia and then it will also be the most livable city. In my opinion, Sydney doesn't have much of a future. There, i've said it. That's why I'm getting out of here asap! Then I can go to a city where things are actually done - like Melbourne, though I'm actually thinking of Berlin. |

I don't think it's a "new" service as such but rather they are removing the technical stop in Honolulu. Like the newswire said, having to clear US immigration and security when you're not even going there is pretty annoying.

Melbourne should've become the capital of Australia which wouldve been fair, instead of NSW creating some hick town in the middle of nowhere

^ Canberra is one of the most liberal and tolerant places in Australia - far from being a hick town. It's quite a nice place also.

Neither Melbourne or Sydney should of been the capital. Canberra is a perfect position. Needs a little work in terms of growth. I would move there though.

That's exactly what Sydney said, and that is why a city was created close to the middle...to make it fair.

NSW did not create the ACT the Commonwealth took the land from NSW for the site of the capital without payment as was agreed. |

Think of it this way; at least people that fly into Sydney get an amazing view! I'll never forget the view I had of the beautiful harbour, the bridge, the Opera house, and the CBD when I flew back to Sydney from a holiday in Melbourne. Plus, 'Kingsford Smith International Airport" sounds so much more formal and nicer than "Badgery's Creek International Airport".

Yes, but Badgery's Creek would be a much nicer and formal airport.

Yep, I was just taking a pretty simplistic narrow minded but optimistic viewpoint.

I happened to be on a bus near Stanmore Station talking to a friend when a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 747-400 roars over our heads so that we can't hear ANYTHING.
I then launched into explaining how right under the busy flightpaths to the parallel runway the NSW gov. has launched a new initiative to house many many thousands and thousands of new people in large apartment blocks - right underneath commercial passenger jets screaming as fast and frequently as they can into and out of Sydney Airport. Obviously, noise pollution might be an issue. That's urban planning at its best I explained to him. (Except if you're in any other city). |

I live in Mascot in a direct line from the third runway, and I hardly hear the planes at all if I have my doors and windows closed. I moved here knowing what it was like. Like me, there will always be people that aren't that bothered by the noise. If it bothers people, then they don't move here. Simple.

I live in the SE suburbs of Melbourne and my house is directly under the flight path for flights to and from New Zealand, Tassie and LA.
It's generally pretty good. It's only when there's a southerly wind we get the flights. What passes over me: Morning rush hour includes a few 737s and A320s going to Tassie and an Emirates A340 going to AKL. After that at around lunch time there are several 747s that pass quite low over my house (QF 025 MEL-AKL-LAX, QF093 MEL-LAX, NZ123/005 MEL-AKL-LAX (777 or 747)). This is followed by the evening rush hour to NZ which includes a mix of NZ and JQ A320s, a QF 737 and a QF 767. Finally at around 11:30pm there is an overnight QF 767 freighter flight to AKL which, for some reason, is VERY loud and passes over VERY low. I'm quite used to it as I know usually what to expect most days. Occasionally on some evenings the EK A340 once again over-flies my house on approach to MEL upon returning from AKL, the same one I see that morning!

I'm back with my folks for a while which puts me a few k's to the NE of Tullamarine. In this location I get to see (and hear) almost everything going almost everywhere. I don't complain though, not nearly as bad as the kind of noise that residents around SYD would get.

Who said they'd call it Badgery's Creek Int Airport? I am sure they can modify the name and come up with something exciting.
