The Future of Tehran's Skyline?

Express your opinion of Tehran's future skyline...

Personally I think we will see a few more new zones such as Shahrak-e Gharb with many highrises. Also 'up town' Tehran such as Vanak will become a bit more spikey on the skyline :P

Hopefully downtown Tehran around the Bazaar will enjoy a decent skyline as well.. The area around Majlis and major administritve buildings is very clean and tidy, a few highrises will make it look perfect

No... This is quite unwise! I've seen what crafty high-rise lovers can do to old neighbourhoods - Kyoto in Japan is a good example of how high-rise buildings built to "modernise" the city made it hideous and lacking any character. And let's not forget Isfahan's Jahan Nama Tower.

I think that a new downtown area with high-rises should be built in Tehran, perhaps near the new Miladi Tower? The old districts should be preserved and kept looking "historic". That'll be the tourist draw in a city that's had nearly all of its history destroyed.

I know what you mean, but I was not suggesting that, I was talking about the ugly mid rises like some of the buildings that popped up over the last 40 years could do with being replaced with some well designed low-mid rises and perhaps a 'symbolic' highrise.. also a little bit further north such as Jomhori Eslami St. which has old delapodated mid-rises from the 60's need replacing eventually...

The Milad Tower is hardly located downtown, it's north of Geesha and just off Hemat exp'way... but again those areas need some more development, including Abir Abbad (Karegar St.) and Usif Abbad

Something that does need to be mentioned is that too many highrises in the south of Tehran can mess up the cities airflow even more than now....

Try to model the city around Hong Kong or even Singapore. They are the best and most well planned cities in the world with good skyline.

You are absolutely right. They should preserve the neighbourhoods the way they are and build a bussiness center with highrises somewhere else in Tehran, for instance by the Milad tower. But there is really plenty of space/ground in and around Tehran to build on. The old neighbourhoods have their own charm and should be renovated and preserved.

they have to replace first of all the old looking highrises from the 70s and 80s like the buildings next to the B3 tower they are ugly, and putting more color on the buildings they build, Tehran looks grey and colorless from above, like most of Iranian cities...
I hope Iranian architects can manage someday to build buildings with a good balance of concrete and glass in Iranian architecture and also buildings who can survive an earthquake, maybe a good place for a highrise district is between the Tehra Int'l tower and the milad tower where also the millenium tower is located but it's full of highways on the other hand, I think I read an article on this forum which was saying that they are not allowed to build highrises outside the Elahieh districs or something like that.

I think the best thing for the future of Tehran is not to further expand the city, but to work on the existing areas be it from the 1950s to the 2000s and develop means to which the city can become less dependent on the motor car. Develop futher bus lanes round the city and even contemplate developing further areas which are pedestrianised, including parts of Valiasr St and Shariati. Including more greenery and specific upgrading of the older streets. The buildings are their now so we should enhance the social space. My thoughts anyway

skyline is an important aspect architectural/urban/cultural identity we should care for with attention. I do not want to visit cities in 50 years who are so replacable by eachother, that only the geography and old leftovers/monuments can distinguish them from eachother.
