yes. i remember some things like that in newspapers, but long time ago when motorways around Rijeka were yet about to start to be built (some 13-14 years ago)

I'm not sure if it was in consideration back in the 50s or 60s when adriatic highway was built.

but it was in consideration some 15 years ago when Rijeka bypass had been defined.

there is even a paper "New structures of large-span prefabricated arch bridges" which mentiones "Bakarska vrata" bridge

Yeah it seems that the "Bakarska vrata" bridge would make more sense as a bypass to Bakar Bay, but not to the villages of Krašica, Praputnjak, and Hreljin, which I think have have become suburbs of Rijeka. So when the bypass is completed, it should take about 15 minutes from Hreljin to Rijeka centre, is this about right?

that is about right. now it takes around 10 minutes from bakar to rijeka

Maybe when Croatia will enter EU (probably 2012) there will be more fundings in order to go on in highways contruction...

there will probably be more money for railway infrastructure... I'm not so sure about highway/mototrway part...

Some time ago someone on SSC, I don't remember if there or in the railway forum, posted the portal of a railway tunnel asking where the other exist was. I have just discovered that it is a single track spiral tunnel named Brajdica and 1873 m long linking the Zagreb-Rijeka/Fiume railway with Rijeka's port.

I don't know why on the sea side there are two portals, but as there is a road tunnel under construction nearby, the railway tunnel may have been modified to allow road works.

no, they are not parallel... railway tunnel is this purple line, and the road tunnel is pretty much fallowing this green line... so the railway tunnel hasn't been modified,
