Yes, it's like that every summer. I've been there two years ago and... same story. According to my info, Sveti Rok and Mala Kapela 2nd tubes will be open June 2008. That's a bit late if you ask me.

They canīt open them tomorrow. It takes time. Tunnel Sveti Rok is 5.661 m and Mala Kapela 5760 m long. HAC is receiving applications for construtors as we speak. Then they have to choose the best bidder and construction is starting this fall. Both tubes are already poked. They just have to eqip them. They will be finished till the end of 2008. This will cost around 85 000 000 euro for both tunnels. Problem is that highway has reached traffic that they didnīt plan until 2012!

Good to hear that construction will start this fall. I hope next summer or next winter holidays we can use them. I also want to say that you have in Croatia great highways and what is very important you still build them. We in Poland can only dream about those highways like yours... That is really good job!
I also hope you will join to EU as quickly as possible and that will be a great power to development all your country. Regards from Poland )

Thanx. It will probably be finished in winter 2008. although our engineers and construction workers often finish their work month or two before deadline.
We are doing just fine without EU. We builted roads on our own without EU fonds. There is no reason to hurry. We are probably going to enter EU in 2009. or 2010.

Yes, thatīs great, exactly that is why i repsect croatia very much, i am not ready to say their motroways are better than our NEW motorways but i have great respect to your Country because you build roads and motorways without any EU funding faster than the idiots from Bulgaria and Romania, it also is the other way round in Bulgaria and Romania, they usually finish work way later than deadline, ******* corrupted whoresons.

A very good distance sign.

My only comment is that Senj could have been leftout until Karlovac. It's not that big or important to sign it 154km away.

But i like the exit-icon, never seen that such way.

Excuse me, but I believe Eu gives nothing for highway construction. EU only gives money for mass transit.. The only case Hungary will get money for highway is the ringroad around Budapest, and that wont be full "refund".

BTW, Croat friend, do you have any pics about the Mura bridge?

No, the EU does give out money for highway construction, but just a certain percentage. But other than Poland I don't know of any countries which use significant EU funding to build their highways, it's not as common across the EU as many people think..

The EU is funding only for E-roads.
Actually, funding is open to every EU country with E-roads, but very few countries actually use it...

Then please, tell me.. this image shows the pan-european corridors.
In central and easter europe, the only corridor that not passes through Hungary,is through Russia. If these are so important(and our location too),then why doesnt the EU pay 110% of our highways? why do WE have to pay for it?
You can count 3 surface+1 waterway...

Those are not the same as E-roads, but actually yeah, I think what Chris had in mind were the corridors. Mind you, they have since been expanded into Western Europe as well..

I'm so sorry for being off-topic...

Anyway...how could you manage to build that much in so little time? Slaves? Free materials? Forced land seizure? Whats your secret???

ain't no offtopic. the secret is intensive building and intensive work. we hired a plenty of workers, we imported a lot of them from BIH, Bulgaria, Turkey, Ukraine... and we've been working at whole route at once, so, not section by section. that's actually the main reason. and we took that job really seriously because we felt extremely importance of it. it was really priority.
good thing is that other worksides were not off, so other motorways have been built in normal time, while A1 and A6, which meant priority, have been built fast. for instance, A3 or majority of A6 were built section by section.
actually, A6 is special - we started to build it section by section, but later it was a part of that program which had a point to connect the seaside with continent in short time.

(now i see double sense of your question - i feel that you asked about fast building of croatian motorways)

Yep, you got it right!

We build huge amunt in little time too(approx 100km yearly),but adding little to each one,not a whole one. And I was right! you were using slaves!(cheap workforce is cheating! )

Oh,and I more questions:

Are there any places where the transit lines(road, highway, rail, doesnt matter)run DIRETCLY on the shore? Being an inhabitant of a landlocked country, I'm obsessed with that kind of landscape.
