Croatia doesn't border Turkey or Greece.

Romania borders neither Turkey nor Greece.

and surely Greece is Schengen? It also borders Turkey.

so in other words, find a better reason as to why Bulgaria and Romania are going to take longer than Croatia!

Romania borders Moldova and Ukraine.

Greece is full of illegals that once Bulgaria and Romania are in Schengen will without a problem go West.

These are the reasons. Got it?

Illegals can still travel by boat via Italy to the rest of the Schengen-area, so that is no reason. If Croatia issues the most modern passports and can guard the borders with SRB, BIH and MNE correctly, then there is no reason to refuse HR.
Especially the Netherlands are against RO and BG in Schengen, because of the fear of loads of unemployed people. But since they are both in EU, our country cannot oppose it forever.

Since I like borders, I hope that Croatia will remain outside the Schengen-area for a while (but for tourism it would of course be much and much better to join).

Traveling by boat is not as easy as by land if you don't want to get caught.
I don't see how entering Schengen would bring unemployed people to the netherlands. Unemployed people still travel as they please. Not to mention that the countries with highest unemployment are members with close to 30 percent while in Bulgaria it's 12.

Border between Slovenia and Croatia is quite unnatural because it exist only last 21 years. Before that there was no border in last 200 years or so (with Bosnia and Hercegovina too).

Is that a connector road from A1 to D8 near Makarska?

Yes. A regular traffic tube and a small emergency one, which is wasting of money. For a few kunas more they could drill a second normal tube and leave it unfinished, just like at Sveti Rok and Mala Kapela tunnels on A1 from 2003/5 to 2009.

Hopefully you convinced Austrians that similar approach (second emergency tube) on Karavanški/Karawanken- Tunnel would be a huge waste of money.

Yes.

Another similar connector road is planned from Ravča interchange to Gradac, again with a tunnel, perhaps 4000 m long. The government hopes that the EU will fund this road through cohesion or infrastructure funds.

If so, I hope that EU will oblige the financing with drilling a regular two traffic tube tunnel.

I think Bulgaria should stay out of Schengen agreement. if the unemployment rate is so low, it should guard its own border as much as it can to secure its onw national interests, otherwise it will be flooded with people looking for jobs.

but seriously,
Romania and Bulgaria are still troubled with corruption. as long as Brussels will see more negative impacts than positive ones, we can forget about closer integration.

poorest eu country flooded with people looking for jobs? ok.

unemployment rate is low because of bulgarians who flooded other eu countries looking for jobs.

Everyone who wanted to leave Bulgaria and Romania for West Europe did so already, with or without Schengen. So Schengen means nothing in the matter of human migration for EU citizens. And as long as we met the technical criteria I don't see the problem.

I do not think a massive Bulgarian nation migration is an issue. actually it has nothing to do with human beings. the key factor are "goods"

And that problem we solved by complaining to all criteria regarding border crossings with non-Schengen countries. Corruption has also been reduced, it's much better than it used to be. And I also encountered hungarian corrupt border officers few month ago, so corruption is a problem not only for romanian and bulgarian border officers, but also for some already member states of Schengen.
Believe me that if I want, I can also now, without Schengen, bring almost everything in my car from Romania to West Europe. The border control usually consist in just an ID check.

I would appreciate it if you gave all the details you can recall: the more or less exact time, border cross (place), name(s) - if you remember -, what the guys looked like, anything, that helps to identify! I am ready to try to call public attention to this incident. (I would sooner rescue a cockroach than defend our present government.)
