ok, I doublechecked, looks like austrian A2 route isn't so straight afterall. Budapest seems visually well off-the-route, but when it comes to motorway connections and distances, it itsn't so out of context.

That is right but this route - Bratislava - A6 - A4 - B50 - Eisenstadt - S31-S4 - Wiener Neustadt A2 - is not bad (in case you would travel to south via Austria). NOo need to travel via Vienna (A4-S1-A2)...And the non-motorway-section (attached with the B50) is not so long (and the landscape round the lake is nice). Certainly some bypasses would improve this road.......The fact is the B50 road is not allowed for trucks.

I've driven this route many times and I dread the B50 every time.

Well, you might notice that in Steiermark. The corner among the junction Ilz, Graz and Spielfeld/Šentilj. Someone who does not want to use the Slovenian motorway on the way to Zagreb takes the following option:

a)Ilz (A2) - B66 - Bad Radkersburg/Gornja Radgona (SLO) - Lenart - Ptuj or even
b)Ilz (A2) - B66 - Bad Radkersburg/Gornja Radgona (SLO) - Ormož - Središče ob Dravi - HR - Varaždin - A4 - Zagreb.

You could find various suggestions......Someone who travels - for example to Makarska - would like to leave the motorway for part of that journey as well....It depends....

I personaly prefer longer motorway routes to normal road shortcuts, especially on longer travels.

Well, sometimes the holiday journey might be a piece of adventure.

The key point is the first crossing behind the border and to continue through (old road) Dolga Vas and Lendava. Yes the first option is to continue in direction Mursko Središče (MMP to HR) or there is another alternative (also known): local road No.443 - old border crossing Pince (H) - expressway M70 - old border crossing Letenye/Goričan. However it is quite useless to go via Lendava (SLO) if you choose Goričan as the entrance to Croatia.

Again, there are suggestions available on internet concerning this matter.....

There's no other way. You either go on the H7, back to Hungary, or... like in my link. First it's just Dolga vas/Hosszúfalu signed (stupid that Lendava is signed via H7), but then you have Lendava in the roundabout itself (Hungarian missing though).

Yes, coming from Hungary on the first roundabout you need to turn righ or you continue on tolled H7 expressway.....Weird. The A5 and H7 in Lendava is free of charge for trucks and coaches but tolled for cars.....

It can be problematic though. You have signs for Maribor and Murska Sobota, but not Čakovec (or Zagreb). In the other direction (Croatia to Hungary) you have plenty of signs with "Pince (H)", but that's another border crossing. Stupid that there are no signs for Lenti in Lendava, only for Dolga vas (and without "H"!).

Yeh, it is puzzling, the previous road function of the connection Hungary-Croatia is pushed back.
Well, Prekmurje (Muravidék) has its habits....

Go here (http://zeljava-lybi.com/forum/index.php) and ask there what you should do. Visiting border crossing Ličko Petrovo Selo and informing Croatian police is enough for you (if you are coming from CRO side). And do not cross border (there is usual barricades on the site) because that is illegal everywhere
Hopefully in a couple of weeks if all goes to plan

I don't have any intention of crossing the border, it's more just to take photos of the runways and the surrounding area (from the safety of the tarmac...). Of course, I'd like to go and see the border area too, but I doubt I'd be able to organise crossing the border there legally. I do know that the Croatian police are able to grant permission for crossing if you ask, but I suppose I can always just drive round to the Bosnia side legally and look there too!

So judging by lack of any news, they won't open A1 and D425 to Ploče this year, right?

Maybe by the end of this year... There was a problem with taking over the construction site from Konstruktor that went bancrupt. I think Viadukt is the new construction company of that section but I dont know the details...

Same thing happend on the A7 construction site posted above... Viadukt is in charge now and you can see from the pictures that they are not joking around

Yeah, they're making nice progress, maybe it's the same story on A1, just nobody around to take photos

A7 and A1

So we suppose that both A7 till Križišče and A1+D425 till Karamatići will be opened in December 2013?
