how about the same at the border? waiting for a ferry is in the city, so you have at least few refreshing bars nearby. at the border crossing you go out of a car, you risk conflicts with officers

There's a new, two times larger ferry, so it's much easier to get on board now. I think going around (through Neum) takes something like 45 minutes longer, but that makes a huge difference when you're after a whole day behind the wheel - being able to relax on the ferry is really nice. Usually I go to Ploče and try to get on board, if there's no place or the ferry has just left then I drive around.

Well, I'll be fresh as a daisy - I've got two days to get from Sarajevo to Orebić, and the plan is to stay in/near Metkovic to explore one of the last truly divided towns in Europe.

Toonczyk, do you have any recommendations for getting from Poland towards Sarajevo, and for that matter, returning to Poland? I'm sick of doing the usual Zagreb-Graz-Vienna-Brno-Olomouc/Ostrava-Wroclaw run - and I've done Budapest-Sahy-Banska Bystrica-Zilina-Cieszyn too. Doesn't matter if it takes a bit longer, I'm just looking for a more interesting route to reach Orebić this year.

Not really, sorry. If you have spare time I'd highly recommend a route through Banja Luka and Mostar along Vrbas and Neretva. It's no highway (takes a lot longer than taking comfortable A1 in Croatia), but it's a decent road and the surroundings are just astonishing. But since you're already going to Sarajevo then I have no clue, I usually go either through Graz or Győr with some deviations along the way. Maybe you'd like to visit Trieste on your way back?

I might take the Mostar-Banja Luka route on the way back, it would at least provide some different scenery! The A1 in Croatia is dull now, even the epic tunnel-hairpin-tunnel near Zadar is now boring, and I'm bored of both routes to Vienna from Graz.

I did the Budapest-Gyor-Bratislava-Zilina route once, but the traffic was horrific between Budapest and Gyor. The M0 wasn't much fun as well.

How I wish for them to build a motorway from Zilina to Sahy...

I'm arriving on Sunday, so avoiding the usual summer Saturday madness in Croatia.
Take the Mostar-Citluk-Ljubuski road to the new border crossing at Bijaca and the use the new motorway sections all the way to Ploce, then the ferry to Trpanj. I have used it four times already since its opening a few months ago and I was the only car at the border each time. No waiting at the border. During the summer holidays it will be different for sure but still much better then Metkovic.

This road is a bit more difficult to drive and takes 45 mins from Mostar to Bijaca but as you said you are looking for some changes.

With regards to the Hungarian section use the new M6 from Bp to Udvar (HR crossing), then the A5 from Osijek to M3. The M0 at Bp has been expanded so it makes a confortable drive now.

A7 is finished, at least the section which was under construction (Sv. Kuzam-Križišće). You can see the route on google maps. So it's an expressway with 100 km/h limit. The last section is very twisty (and the speed limit is lower, I think 70) because in the future there will be the Križišće junction where the "real" A7 motorway will start towards Senj and Dalmatia (so there will be 4 directions: to Dalmatia, to Krk, to Rijeka and to the north and the future Rijeka bypass)

On the other hand, there's nothing going on with the motorway from Križišće towards Senj (and Dalmatia), because the AADT is not that high to justify the motorway and as you know we are kind of broke (), but the motorway is really needed there because the existing road across Vratnik (D23) isn't really adequate, and A7 should be built in sense of the adriatic-ionian corridor from Trieste to Greece. You can see the planned route from Križišće to Žuta Lokva (A1) here.

They didnt even started yet. And we dont have any idea how it will be designed
Or when they will start and/or finish reconstruction A7/D8 Šmrika intersection

At the moment only works on motorways in Croatia are on A5 ( Drava bridge) and A11 ( see pictures above). And they are very very slow

A11 seems to be progressing well. How far (south) east is it planned? Have there been any talks with RS or BiH governments on possible links to future/planned BiH motorway network?

To bad Google street view doesn't show how A7 ends nor there are any pictures (I think)

It is planned to finish in Mošćenica ( small village between Sisak and Petrinja)
You can see it here http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=13/45.4689/16.3267

So far there are no interest in link with BiH, and unfortunately there is not enough money even to complete road to Lekenik. And actually construction is going very slow.

@ zezi, thanks. It would be nice if they could link A11 to at least the D224.

But I wonder, is there is a demand for a full motorway to Petrinja / Sisak area? Seems to me that without a firm commitment from RS/BiH to build a motorway to Banja Luka and later to Zenica, then linking with Sarajevo, that this motorway (A11) will have little usage.
