There isn't much traffic on that border, and Hungarians probably don't care about Brussels. But it's insane nevertheless.

yeah, but you cannot say that at Nădlăc there is no high traffic...

also, I don't see the purpose of that move.

As I said, Hungarians probably don't care too much about what Brussels says. Slovenian policemen are just doing what they were told from the EU. If you have to check everyone, it can't go fast... but it's stupid in any case.

I was looking at Dugi Otok on Streetview and I was surprised to see a lot of vintage cars (1970s to 1990s) laying around, some without license plates. Do they just dump them there and let them rust? Or they drive around without license plates because nobody controls?

Having a lot experiance with hungarian border police on border with Serbia and Croatia, I have to say that they always were very strict... sometimes hungarian border check was a nightmare, e.g. when they one hour tried to proof that my car is stolen and I want to smuggle it to Kosovo without any evidence
So, now I expect that hungarians are going to be much stricter than before

sorry for OT

Remote islands are often "other countries". Tolerance for law and order is quite high, especially in non tourist areas of those islands.

They are also doing ridiculous checks on Friday/Saturday nights at Maribor rest stop towards Austria lately. Pulling over every single car and asking stupid questions. Freaked out last time because they suggested there were refugees hiding in the trunk my tiny 3 door car which can barely fit two beer boxes...

queue at A1 toll barrier entering Zagreb yesterday. (weird) reason: protest of Hajduk Split supporters against Croatian Football Association - arriving to match in Zagreb they protested in the way of paying the toll in low-value coins.

let's see how far they come this time.

Pelješac Bridge Construction to Begin in Autumn?

After two months, the procedure of selecting the construction company for the Pelješac Bridge can continue. The State Public Procurement Control Commission has rejected an appeal by one of the companies not selected for the second round.
...
With this plan, construction of the bridge could begin in autumn, with the estimated value of works for the bridge and access roads at 1.75 billion kuna.

I still doubt that we will see any construction works this year.
I have this feeling A1 will never be continued from the current southern terminus and that the expressway down to Ploče, perhaps with a widened D8 state road, will be all we get...

Croatian politicians have had nothing in their minds but dirty political games and new elections, they don't do their jobs, so I'm pessimistic.

I agree with you. The EU has no interest in funding it, and building the A1 through Konavle would only make money during 2-3 months of the year.

I'm surprised that a private operator can't be found for Dubrovnik Airport-Dubrovnik though. It seems to me that a high toll (for instance, 5 Euro) would easily be paid by most tourists to avoid the hell of the D8.

Currently only motorways can be tolled in Croatia, and this road is not planned as a motorway but as a D road.
