It's ok now, the fire has subsided, but yesterday was the worst day since the war ended in Croatia by far. Maybe even including the war.

Although, the fire was big due to, primarily, bad weather conditions (strong wind), the comparison with the war situation is really just an exaggeration.

Around 1000 houses were directly threatened by fire and the level of drama, engagement of general population and overall stress has not been seen since the war. There wasn't (much) shooting but there was everything else.

1000 houses is nothing if we compare something with the war.
Tenja had around 2000 houses alone and it was just one village.
Tenja had 2500 refugees from 1991 to 1998 (Croats), and has another 2500 since 1998 (Serbs).

If whole Split were caught in fire, this would still be nothing comparing with the war in which hundreds of thousands people lost their home.

Yes, if a city of 200,000 were caught on fire it would be nothing
Anyway, the worst Croatia has seen SINCE the war.

I did not say that. You cut my sentence to change its meaning.

But still, this is not the worst situation in Croatia even if we let the war aside.

Flood in Slavonia in 2014 was worse then this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_S..._Europe_floods) and if we reduce our comparison only to fire, the worst situation by far was in 2007 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Croatian_coast_fires)

P.S.
Although not very important for this discussion, Split's population was 167121 at the last census.

again wildfires. A1 is closed due to smoke and fire between Benkovac and Pirovac. whole afternoon vehicles are let go without toll payment because of crowd caused by closure.
many state roads nearby are also closed, so it caused huge jam at D8.

here is gallery with very interesting photos from the site.

That much dark red usually means delays in the hours. Google Maps cannot reliably calculate delays with stationary traffic.

I can understand higher summer tolls, but surely it would make sense to reduce the tolls in winter months to try and encourage people to use the motorways more?

I used the A1 between Zagreb-Zadar a few years ago in early May, and the lack of traffic between the A6 exit and Zadar was astonishing.

I think all of us agree with you, but our government decided to raise tolls in agreement with world bank.
Original loans for motorways are too big / expensive and to get another loan to close previous loans our government decided to raise tolls second time in last 5 years
