Newly built Osijek-Djakovo section of motorway formally opened

OSIJEK, April 17 2009.

A 32.5 kilometre long newly-built section of a future motorway that will be running from Beli Manastir near the Hungarian border via Osijek to Svilaj on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina was formally opened to traffic by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Friday.

The cost of construction of the Osijek-Djakovo stretch was HRK 2.2 billion exclusive of Value Added Tax. The work was carried out by 15 contractors, which also built three viaducts, eight bridges, 17 overpasses and one underpass, as well as two rest stops and the Traffic Control Centre.

The Beli Manastir-Osijek-Svilaj motorway will be 88.6 kilometres long and is a part of the pan-European transport corridor 5c stretching from Budapest to the southern Croatian Adriatic port of Ploce.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Sanader said events of this kind confirmed that such large infrastructure projects were feasible even in time of a global economic crisis. He said that construction of the motorway towards Beli Manastir and Svilaj would continue.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said that by building the new stretch of the A5 motorway, the government delivered on its promise to connect the eastern and the coastal part of the country with a highway and to include eastern Croatia into pan-European transport corridors.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Bozidar Kalmeta recalled that 501 kilometres of highway had been built in Croatia since 2004.

The CEO of the Hrvatske Autoceste highway construction and maintenance company, Jurica Prskalo, said that 70 per cent of the Croatian part of Corridor 5c was now completed and that Croatia now had 1,224 kilometres of highway.

Prime Minister inaugurates works on Podravina-Bilogora Y highway

VRBOVEC, April 27 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Motorways company and construction associations signed in Vrbovec on Monday contracts on the construction of sections of the Podravina-Bilogora Upsilon motorway, while Prime Minister Ivo Sanader inaugurated works on the first two sections, Gradec - Sokolovac and Vrbovec 2 - Bjelovar, 47.5 km long in total.

The Podravina-Bilogora Upsilon in northern Croatia is 172 km long and consists of two 86 km long motorways, the A12 (Sveta Helena - Vrbovec - Krizevci - Koprivnica - Gola) and the A13 (Vrbovec - Bjelovar - Virovitica - Terezino Polje).

Sanader said the construction of the highway would boost the local economy, that such infrastructure projects should be implemented in times of crisis because they brought contractors money to pay salaries and to invest, and that the effects of highway construction were immediately visible.

Deputy PM Djurdja Adlesic too said the construction of a highway towards Bjelovar would benefit the local economy and population.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said that 501 km of highways had been built in Croatia in the past five and a half years, and announced the construction of a highway from Dubrovnik to Ploce in southern Croatia.

The A12 motorway will consist of five sections, the first of which, Gradec-Sokolovac, is worth HRK 1.17 billion without VAT.

The A13 will consist of four sections, the first of which is the 27.5 km long Vrbovec 2 - Bjelovar section, worth HRK 729.3 million.

Construction on both sections is expected to last 22 months.

By the end of this year we expect 10 km to be finished ( Ravča - Vrgorac )
Other 10 km probably next year, but not for sure! ( Vrgorac - Ploče )

On that last part of A1 ( Vrgorac - Ploče ) there was a major change in project.

A12 won't have a Hungarian pair. A13 maybe but not in 10-15 years time.
The border is 65 km far from Pécs (end of Hungarian M60 motorway) and 45 form Szentlőrinc (planned end of half-profile M60).

Kmmm... no... they just simply wrote Budapest just because there is nothing else on the other side of the border to complement the .hr A12, uh? Hmmm...
What about a plan for a connection from M9 from Kaposvar? Or maybe an extension of the M60?

Anyways, to our Croatian friends: great ******* job! It really should be a model to us all!!

Edit: Hunroger posted as I was writing...

And what do you think about the new possible corridor Trieste-Ljubljana-Zagreb-Virovitica-Barcs-Pecs-Szekszard-Szeged-Romania (Arad,Timisoara)...and may be in the future an extension to Moldavia and Ukraine (Odessa).

In my opinion, this first part could be possible. From Trieste to Vrbovec (HR) there is already motorway. A13 Vrbovec-Hungarian border will be built untill 2013.
Your M60 Boly-Pecs will be opened next year, so it will miss cca 60 km between Croatian border and Pecs.

Motorway M6 to Szekszard already exists, as the part of M9 towards the east with the bridge over the Danube. It should then connect this part to Szeged. From Szeged to Romanian border you're currently building the motorway, aren't you?

I think this is the shortest and fastest route between Northern Italy and Northern Romania, Moldavia and Ukraine. And don't forget that a large number of their diaspora living there.

I think it doesn´t have bright future. Coz there is already parallel European route E70
Trieste - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Belgrade - Timisoara

On that route large part is motorway already and Serbia has announced that it will build missing part Belgrade - Romanian border.

there is initiative for new highway on route to Timisoara, but i think it will not follow E70 route, but it will go further up north from Ruma, Novi Sad, Zrenjanin to border.

Pohvalno je: na cijeloj dužini zahvata izgrađena je pješačko-biciklistička staza.
