Tubeman in Dubai
Here's a selection of my pics from my trip to Dubai 2 weeks ago, enjoy!
There's tons but I've kept them small  Burj Al Arab and 'Wave'    Guess who?  Helicopter landing    ...From a helicopter we chartered      ...And inside; fountains  Straight up   Cocktail bar: the platform-like structure on the seaward side at the top  From the base... not bad considering I had no tripod!  2 aquaria flank the escalators up from the lobby   Lobby  30 minute helicopter trip from the airport... have already posted the Burj al Arab pics above... Heading towards the city...  Skyscraper craziness along Sheikh Zayed Road...   Palm Jumeirah     Dubai Marina  Jumeirah Beach reidences (foreground)  Jumeirah Beach residences & Palm Jumeirah  Houses, Emirates Hills  Emirates Hills & Dubai Marina / Jumeirah Beach beyond  Mall of the Emirates, Ski slope... Buraj Al Arab & Wave beyond, then 'The World' u/c in far distance  More construction...  Burj Dubai... only 300m to go!      Sheikh Zayed Road  Emirates Towers  Dubai Creek  View from hotel (Hilton Jumeirah Beach)  Jumeirah Beach Residences being built all around us (40 towers!!!!)   Hilton balconies  The pool  Mall of the Emirates... watching the fountains below  Mall roof  Ski Dubai! (inside Mall)  The 'Wave'  Don't jump!  Desert  Rare Arabian Oryx  Dune bashing!  Camels  I'm tall!  Desert sunset  Bastakiya      Dubai Creek  Abras (Water taxis)  Shadow: Grand Mosque  Abra  Textile Souk  Grand Mosque Minaret  Al Fahedi Fort & Grand Mosque  Al Fahedi Fort (Dubai Museum)  Beautiful tiled building off Al Fahedi Street... Not even in my guide book... Any ideas?   ...Another mosque, opposite the above  Minaret and Abra... squint and it could be Venice!  Up the creek!

Me too! I only got to spend 3 great days in Dubai, and enjoyed every minute of it.
That helicopter tour looked amazing!

That was only 3 days for me too! I've got Bangkok, Heron Island, Brisbane and Sydney to follow! Its just so time consuming resizing, hosting and posting so many pics!

You can see how Dubai is growing from litterally nothing, in one of them pics theres like 10 buildings being constructed at the same time!!! but i hope they keep the traditions and cultures of Dubai, they should infact make a really futuristic looking Mosque there to keep their identity. I also hope they dont change their Alcohol laws it makes it really intrigueing.

Wow, that's amzing, certainly looks like your saw the sites of Dubai. It's good to see that they are retaining their history. Burj Dubai looks so tall, can't believe it's only at half height!

Absolutely incredible pictures Joe - you're so lucky to be able to go on regular jaunts like this. Dubai is just completely surreal. It's a far cry from 1978 when I first and last walked briefly on Dubai soil - only that time we were just at the airport for a refuelling stop on the way back home from Hong Kong. It was like a furnace that occasion, even though it was night time - must have been at least 35ºc. I also remember buying a bottle of Fanta and it costing me 75p in English money for it - expensive by any standards even then.

stunning picks, i went in like 1999 to the Jumeriah Beach and wow Dubai ws quite different even as recent as then...(Marina - where has that sprung up from
 )

Great pictures. What an absurd city! ( Thats not meant in a negative way, I think its amazing, but God its just absurd ). One big gust of wind and that Burj Dubai will be away.
