could be a nice addition...
I saw this careerbuilder ad for Tavern at the park (not 'on' the park) on the side of chicagobusiness.com. I was curious, so I googled the name and saw that Zagat.com had this to say: Millennium Park will become home to Tavern at the Park, a moderately priced, family-oriented New American entry from the Keefer’s crew – with John Hogan as executive chef. Rooftop dining will take advantage of the spectacular setting (130 E. Randolph St.).
Still curious, I found this site called Chowhound.com, and their forum had a few more details. Here is some of what they had to say: "The location is (seriously) to die for considering it is probably one of the closer restaurants to the park with a magnificent view. (I work in that building, very familar with the vantage point)" "They have been in construction for quite a while now. The building was sold to an LA based REIT last year around this time and immediately plans for Taven on the Park were announced..." "I work in the building too and it looks like it is going to be very nice. They will have rooftop dining too which should give some nice views. I understand this will be a moderately priced restaurant, not fancy, but that will be good for the area too. They only have to be a half rung above Park Grill to make it big!" "I am pretty sure the first open day to the public will be Aug. 1st. The rooftop will not be open this summer. They will shoot for next summer due to cost and time right now." |

130 East Randolph is the aluminum pavilion at the southwest corner of the Prudential Plaza complex. Yes, it has been under construction for a few months now...
I anticipate the rooftop dining will be quite a draw, and bring some much-needed nightlife to Upper Randolph. |

Word on the street is that when Whole Foods on North Ave. moves to Kingsbury. West Elm and Williams-Sonoma Home could move into that spot. Thus making this area the home furnishings capital of Chicago!!! whohhahaha.
http://chicago.apartmenttherapy.com/...chicago-028708 The former BP station on North that Apple might go to looks likes its close to starting construction. Wouldn't it be cool if Apple made a deal with the city to remodel the North and Clybourn Station - they could deck it out with all Apple advertising, make it all white or something. |

I've been there twice. It's a great place. Beautiful decor, great scenery of the river, diverse crowd, beautiful people and most importantly great food. The dishes my wife and I had were very tasty (seviches, sea bass, chocolate cigar). Read chicago city search.com reviews.

Trump has named his chef:
http://www.chicagomag.com/Radar/Dish...ew-apprentice/ Everyone has been speculating about what high-octane chef would anchor the restaurant coming to the 16th floor of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago (401 N. Wabash Ave.) when it opens in December. Trotter? Robuchon? Ducasse? Nope. The answer is . . . Frank Brunacci. |

Hey guys. There is an ongoing discussion at SSP about the food in various cities, and one thing that I think makes chicago a mecca for food is that we have a great forum that kills chowhound and yelp in terms of usefulness for chicago eats. It is something every chicagoan should know about, so I thought I would throw it up here:
www.lthforum.com CHeck out the great neighborhood restaurants. Every restaurant on that list has been fantastic. |

Fashion shops Mag Mile After surge of gadget merchants, trendy apparel retailers are back By Eddie Baeb and Thomas A. Corfman Fashion is in again on the Magnificent Mile. After a time when it seemed like most new retailers coming to North Michigan Avenue were either electronics stores or the type of big-box shops that clog suburbia, several trendy fashion merchants are planning stores on Chicago's premier shopping strip. ![]() ----------- The article also mentions Zara looking for a smaller spot in B37. |

I've been hearing Zara rumors for years, mostly centering on WTP (which, after all, scored their crosstown rival Mango). B37 would make sense, given their city mandate to go after first-in-region concepts. Chicago Place needs more help than that.
So, 664 is the Farwell Building, er, Residences at the Ritz?

There is no news on the retail portion of the building. The owner/redeveloper of the building, Joseph Freed & Associates, announced yesterday 8/14/07 that it would be moving its headquarters into the office space on the upper floors of the building. Freed will be taking 50,000 square feet and moving 125 employees from its current headquarters site in the suburbs.

REI plans store near Clybourn Corridor Aug. 15, 2007 By Eddie Baeb Outdoor gear retailer Recreational Equipment Inc., known as REI, is making a trek toward the Clybourn Corridor. The Kent, Wash.-based company has signed a letter of intent for a new store at a development under construction on Halsted Street just south of Clybourn Avenue, sources say. The development also will be the new home of the British School of Chicago. |

I'd heard REI rumors about Block 37, but that would have been pretty silly. 32,000 is slightly above average for them; ~25,000 appears average, but the Seattle and Denver flagships (among their only urban sites) both push 100,000 square feet. Their Portland Pearl District store is around 35,000 square feet over two levels, which seems pretty similar to this operation. I wrote a letter to them last year asking them to consider more urban sites -- MEC, their Canadian equivalent, prefers downtowns -- and perhaps that paid off.
In any case, it's been a good week -- Zara and REI are two shops I hit up when I'm out of town. (My fashion sense in a nutshell, perhaps?)

Some Lakeview Retail news, where I live.
Potbelly just opened on Belmont near the el, Jamba Juice, right next door is very near to opening. Ann Sather is moving or opening anothing location near the el on belmont, I can't tell what is going on. The Belmont Army Store (which is like Urban Outfitters) is finally making progress and looks like it should be open soon. I wonder what the delay was. It's such a cool looking store, someone should take a picture, maybe i will one day. Also, Southport is awesome - I just wanted to add that. Broadway has a ton of open spots - Wilde Bar and Restaurant is about to open on broadway. Also the first Threadless.com Store looks like its close to opening on Broadway. Looks like something is coming in to Broadway and Aldine (just north of that coffee shop/market) I'm not sure what. A lundry-mat closed, is a huge spot, i wonder whats coming there. It just seems like the rents are jumping on Broadway and a lot of places are closing and new places opening. Sura, which opened about a month ago is great, and when its gets it liquor license, along with Wilde - it should add some night life to broadway. Also, Arhauas, A furniture store is opening near the Clybourn and North intersection at 1980 N. Clynourn. I see new retail contruction on North Ave., too. We'll see what comes. |

Zara inks deal at Chicago Place Spanish retailer Zara plans a store at Chicago Place, part of a renovation that will "de-mall" the Mag Mile property and convert upper-level floors into a hotel, says Alex Adjmi, a member of the New York group that owns the building. Zara will replace Talbots. [Thomas A. Corfman and Eddie Baeb] |
