They took some extra time... The A3 has time until mid 2017, the A1, A5 and the A8 until early 2017. The A7 will be ready by mid 2016 (all the remaining funds have been granted).

Actually, the decision has been published on the Government Gazette, issue Α.Α.Π. - number 253, date 21.12.2015.

The government does not seem to consider how serious the situation is in regards to road numbers for lower-class roads: JayCBR and I, and probably many Greek mappers are completely stumped by the current system.

All mappers, Greek and international, seem very much confused.

And as drivers in general have learned to consult only the destinations shown on signs, so who cares and also by thinking of the 1963 national roads numbering and the idiotic Greek Statistics edition of 1988, the motorway numbering schemes of 2008 and 2015 and that idiotic effort by Egnatia Odos (2011) to register the road network of Greece, there is no hope...

Well, it's a ridiculous problem......many signs of Greek roads (not only there) are completely wrong, resulting to total confusion......

A29: Krystalopigi – Koromilia 15km (2012 to 2015) – project – map

I think the section is not yet opened, is it?

Is there any updated estimated completion date? Are works quite advanced or is there a hugh delay?

Further to the question of Sponge Bob (#2340) about motorways A1, A5, A7/A71 and A8, there was an one-page article on today’s newspaper “I Efimerida ton Syntakton” (it has not been uploaded on their site yet), which according to information from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, states the following:

A1: The Tempi and Plataomonas Tunnels are expected to open by spring 2017.

A5: The first ‘interesting’ thing is that there are 63km that are ready but cannot open as somewhere (Rivio) there is a fish farm that has not been expropriated with the final value to be decided by a court. Otherwise the open Agrinio Bypass would be joined by two significant sections that would allow the motorway to run between the west exit of the Klokova Tunnel all the way up to Amfilohia. Further to the north, within the last 45km towards Ioannina (A2) the old Army barracks south of Ioannina have been demolished but there is still a high voltage power line that has to be removed. The optimistic point is that the two difficult sections of the Amfilohia – Arta segment (at Krikelo and Menidi) are well in advance, so that along with the open Arta Bypass, it may give soon a 43km section to the traffic. If the above mentioned problems will be solved soon there might be a case of opening of the motorway by the end of 2016, with the Klokova Tunnel needing one further year. As far as the southern section of the motorway, a 7km section between Dounaiika and Pyrgos along with some improvements to the nearby sections of EO9 and EO74 has been tendered with the deadline to send offers in early March. The Patra to Pyrgos section will be allocated in small segments as a government proposal to open the procedure also to medium size constructors.

A7/A71: The Tsakona Bridge will open in February, the A71 (Lefktro – Sparti) in April and the Kalamata Bypass in August.

A8: During the summer a 25km section between Ancient Korinthos and Kiato will be given to traffic, with a further 12km up to Xylokastro that might be ready by about the same time. Further west from this, it seems that almost the rest motorway up to Rio (A5) will open by spring 2017. The main problem is that the motorway works are dependent to the railway line works between Kiato and Patra – another ‘great’ Greek achievement as the railway works should have finished by 2012, but have started... recently with only the stations being ready, but not the... rails. It seems that the Panagopoula Tunnel will be the last piece to open; expected date December 2017.

I'm a little bit confused now. I'll split and modify my A8 project entry later on because it's just one long section now:

A8: Patra-Rio (A5/A9) – Korinthos (A7) 120km (2008 to 2017) – project – map

The deadline is strange because you've reported a different opening date earlier (early 2017 or December 2017?):

Generally, what does "has time until..." mean? Are you talking about the estimated completion date? That would mean:

A3: Trikala – Xuniada ~90km (2008 to 2016 --> Mid 2017) – project – map
A3: Panagia (A2) – Trikala ~50km (2008 to > 2016 --> Mid 2017) – project – map
A3: Trikala – Xuniada ~90km (2008 to 2016 --> Mid 2017) – project – map
A3: Xuniada – Anthili (A1) ~35km (2008 to > 2016 --> Mid 2017) – project – map

But which A5 sections are you talking about?

Is there any info about the other u/c projects which are/were expected to be opened in 2016?

A1: Skotina – Aegani 10km (2008 to October 2016) – project – map
A25: Kato Christos – Strymoniko ~21km (? to 2016) – project – map
A25: Neo Petritsi – Kamaroto ~10km (? to 2016) – project – map
A27: Niki – Florina 14.5km (2011 to 2016) – project – map
A52: Aktio – Loutraki 35km (2009 to 2016) – ? – map
A52: Loutraki – Ambraktia (A5) 13km (2009 to 2016) – ? – map

A5: There is no specific date, but the article was optimistic about a 2016 opening between Amfilohia and Arta.

A8: It suggests that the whole Korinthos – Patra section will open by spring 2017, except the Panagopoula Tunnel which goes for the end of 2017. Traffic there will be meanwhile use the existing EO8a stretch, so probably the deadline of “early 2017” fits. But I am confused as much as you are.

A3/”has time until”: It means that the allocation of EU funds is secured only if the road is finished by then.

A1: The Skotina – Aigani section is dependent to the Platamonas Tunnel, so it goes to spring 2017 as well.

A25: I am confused as a November article at ypodomes.com states that it should be finished by the end of 2015.

A52: There are severe problems with funding. The topic has even been discussed at the Parliament. There is even a 4,4km section that needs a new constructor.

A27 (Florina – Niki): It may open at any time soon.

Last time I drove there (27 Dec 2015) this part was opened to traffic but it looked very unfinished (just a thin layer of pavement).

I guess both carriageways have already been in service because it looks completed on Google Satellite images and it's "opened" on OSM now. Does anyone know since when the Neo Petritsi – Kamaroto section is in service? December 2015 or earlier?

this news article seems to indicate it was planned to open by November, but this report says works have been delayed due to rain.

But Google Translate sucks with Greek.

In fact the "βροχή παρατάσεων" in the second link means metaphorically "lots of extensions". This does not affect the actual news though.

I am driving Sofia-Thessaloniki a lot. This section was not yet open on December 19 (driving to Thessaloniki) but it was open on December 27, 2015 (driving back to Sofia).

Thanks. I guess the A25 section had to be opened for traffic in 2015 to get full EU funding although the final layer is still missing.

Like the Sofia Northern Speed Tangent which had to be opened (partially). The funding for Greek A3 is exteneded though:

Is there any info about the opening of the 2nd A25 section u/c? Looks like the southern part could already be in service!?

It was a long time constructed, so I wonder where all the money was since 2009 for it.
