It seems Greece got the promised EU funding rolled over to 2017. The A25 is one of the roads ( along with the A8 and A1 ) that would still qualify for some EU funding anyway as they are all on core routes.

The A5 A7 and A3 would no longer qualify unless the funds were rolled over by agreement.

According to these 1 & 2 articles, the Minister of Infrastructure, Transportation and Networks has signed a decision to build a vertical axis connecting the town of Preveza with the Ionian motorway (A5). Although the details of the project are not known yet, it is said that the new motorway will start at A5's Filippiada interchange and will end at an interchange with the coastal national road Preveza – Igoumenitsa. The road itself will be a dual carriageway, with 2 lanes per direction, separated by a Jersey barrier, without a hard shoulder (emergency lane). It will be similar to motorway A52.

Considering the economic situation of Greece and the still, 6 years after, unfinished A52 motorway that is only 48 km long and which does not have any major tunnels or bridges, it is ridicules to even discuss a new motorway just a few kilometres northern of A52.

Hello all,

My apologies if that has been already mentioned, but Google Earth has updated imagery of Kastoria's region. Now, anyone can clearly see the alignment of the northern and last section (20 km length) of A29 motorway.

The road is based on the Greek "α4ν*σ" roadway category. Specifically it has got:
  • A Jersey barrier as median strip
  • A total roadway width of 22,25 m
  • 2 traffic lanes per direction with width of: 3,50 m (inner) / 3,75 m (outer)
  • Emergency lane of 2,30 m width
  • Hard strip width of 1,27 m (I am not sure about the term here, but I mean the paved space between the foot of the median barrier and the inner road marking line)

Yesterday it was given to traffic the arched bridge of Tsakona in A7 motorway. The bridge has total length of 390 metres and costed around 22,85 million euros. Its greatest span is 300 metres long – second only to Rio-Antirio Bridge.

With the completion of this bridge, construction of the A7 arterial can be considered complete.
Now, only Kalamata's bypass and the A71 spur route remain.

I'd guess "inner shoulder" (extends the pattern of hard and soft outer shoulders)

Hello, I would like to ask you when the A25 will be finished? On Google maps and street view, dated October 2014, it is still under construction but in an advanced phase. Thank you very much.

A25 Clarification

Γεια σας,

Regarding A25 highway, Neo Petritsi-Kamaroto is already in service and Kato Christos-Strimoniko is under construction. I am not sure what is the current situation there but hopefully this section could be completed within this year. However, what about the part in between from Kamaroto to Kato Christos? The 2x2 road is not to the desired state and the surface needs to be renovated at least at some places, moreover there is no emergency lane. Do you plan to upgrade this section too?

PS: Amazing video of the Rio bridge, very pleasing for the eye. This is definitely the pearl of the infrastructure in Greece.

Γεια σου Roaddor,

I have read that plans to upgrade that particular section, do exist. However, since that section is already a dual carriageway, no specific construction schedule has been set.

Thanks Stavros,

It is okay to remain like an expressway, nevertheless, some attention is good to be paid to the asphalt (especially the right lane in both directions) and some jerseys, mainly for safety reasons. Traffic is going to increase along A25 and one day when we complete our sections, Sofia-Thessaloniki could be taken in two and a half hours.

On April 2015, a 3-year operation and maintenance contract between Egnatia Odos and AKTOR constructor has been signed including the vertical axes A25.

Therefore, I expect that some repair works in asphalt and barriers in the problematic section (K. Christos - Sidirokastro) will be performed.
Not an upgrade or a heavy maintenance.

Before anything else happens with the so called vertical axes, it is high time that the corresponding authorities in Greece once and for all take solid measures and stop the ridiculous blockades of the BCPs and consequently the main infrastructure roads. This situation is not good for anybody. I hope common sense will prevail very soon but if not, those farmers should be dispersed even by force if necessary and then charged accordingly with doing something against the law so that this is not repeated anymore. If they are not pleased by anything, this is definitely not the way to express disagreement.
I am sorry for this off-topic but things should be clearly said. There are a of lot people, Greek and Bulgarian who are constantly moving across the border doing business and also for leisure and it is in our mutual interest to intensify these relations.

At the first video (1:27) we can see the new sector and the existing national road in old pillars.
Will they demolition it when the traffic shifted to new sector?
