Well the forum doesn't have such a service you have to use flickr or something like that, you can register in www.flickr.com and upload photos there, and then you just post those here if you wish so.

i was surprised yesterday... i was in my hometown for the orthodox easter holidays. on my way back to athens i was fully surprised of what i saw! a brand new part of the highway has given and its open... i'm talking about the part form the interchange to kaditsa-trikala till the loutra thermopilon or more... i dont remember the exact location... here's a map.

there's a strane thing i couldn't understand... in that part, i mean the one i was talking about in the last paragraph, there is a huge bridge under construction. the highway was going to pass through this bridge. i dont remeber crossing a bridge... but i was driving on a new highway... :P confused...

If i correctly understand what you are saying, then you are most likely talking about the point where the new Central Greece motorway (E 65) will meet PATHE(A 1), and the bridge that you are talking about is the overpass of the old national road (EO 3) and the E 65.

Some pictures of the bridge from stadia.gr member Mike:

And this is the overpass:

I returned from Athens yesterday. As far as i saw, that motorway-like road is a sort of an acces road and not the final route of the highway and i think i saw that birdge, and is still under construction.

New roads to shift city up a gear

Quote:
The Environment and Public Works Ministry unveiled plans yesterday for the construction of a 55-kilometer highway road network to be built around Attica at a cost of 1.2 billion euros.

“With these projects, we are doubling the roads with high-speed traffic and contributing decisively to upgrading the environment and easing traffic congestion in central Attica,” said Minister Giorgos Souflias.

Construction plans are based on six different projects that include linking the Attiki Odos to southern parts of the city, through a 14.5-kilometer underground tunnel that will ease traffic in the eastern and southern parts of the capital.

Plans also include the construction of a 3.5-kilometer tunnel through Mt Hymettus and reconstruction of parts of Poseidonos Avenue as an underground road.

Ninety percent of the total 55 kilometers will be underground.

The initial tender process is seen as being launched by the end of the year with the roads expected to be open for use in 2013, including the toll booths.

“Toll charges are a basic part of the tender and the only thing I can say is that the toll charges may be cheaper than those that we are paying on the existing Attiki Odos, but under no circumstances will they be more expensive,” said the minister.

Drivers will be hit with a toll charge through an electronic monitoring system that will determine the charge applicable, depending on the distance of the new road used by the vehicle.

According to the ministry when all the new planned roads will completed by 2013, Athens will have 170-180km of new roads.

Because in case of fire asphalt is becoming toxic. That's why in modern tunnels concrete pavement is used, although the adjacent road may have asphalt pavement.

Actually modern tunnels use asphalt, too. Italian tunnels use asphalt only and new Slovenian tunnels are also asphalted. Problem with concrete tunnels is in tire-ground friction, especially in wet conditions, where asphalt is much better --> increased safety. And durability of concrete tunnels is not so much better than at asphalted tunnels, which are easier and much cheaper to repair, when necessary.
