There are many other roads in Greece which need to re-start the works, like the highway from Korinthos to Patra.

Actually the tragicomic part of the map is that, since then very little has changed in that specific region of Greece.

And something else that I want to share with you –I know that you are interested in these kinds of things- is this photo. It is taken in Patra’s bypass and shows a new overhead sign. Although it seems valid (Din 1451 font, A5, etc...) at first sight, it indicates that the exit leads to National Road 4. Of course NR 4 has no relevance with Patra. It is located in the northern part of Greece. These new signs have been placed by the private operator of the road Athens – Patra – Pyrgos, Olymbia Odos.

As a very popular Greek proverb says... Τι έχεις Γιάννη; Τι είχα πάντα!

Hahaha!!!

So up to now, we have seen on signs:

(A)5 at Malakasa (should be NR79), (A)6 at Larisa (should be NR6), NR1 at Igoumenitsa (should be - new - NR18?), NR4 at Patra (should be nothing; NR33 is not directly reached at this exit), NR7 at Ioannina (should be NR5), NR15 at Volvi (should be nothing; there is a provincial road No 15 there), NR48 at Thermopyles (should be NR27) and NR92 at Ioannina (should be NR5).

Good...

Has this section near Stylida (east of Lamia) opened to traffic already?

No. Works have stopped for almost two years. There is some progress lately in order to resume works, but more is expected to be done after the new government takes over.

As there has been quite a lot of discussion in this thread about the unclear situation of the Greek national road network numbering. As also maps show quite a lot of different things, I will try to give the most accurate picture possible to be given. Sorry for the long message.

A1: ΜΚ border, Evzonoi - Agios Athanasios – Axios I/C – Kleidi I/C - Katerini - Larisa - Velestino - Lamia - Thiva - Shimatari - Athina - Peiraias [Sections under construction: Sperheios – Lamia, Agia Marina – Stylida – Rahes, Tempi – Platamonas – Leptokarya]
A1 Spur: Axios I/C – Thessaloniki [It is a strange allocation as the route is the same of the A2 with just the need for a short A2x or even A12x motorway number east of the A2 Kalohori I/C]
A2: Igoumenitsa - Ioannina - Agia Paraskevi I/C - Grevena - Siatista - Kozani - Veroia – Kleidi I/C – Axios I/C - Thessaloniki - Langadas - Asprovalta - Kavala - Xanthi - Komotini - Alexandroupoli - Ardani - Kipoi, TR border
A3: Agia Paraskevi I/C - Trikala - Karditsa – Lamia [Under construction, but very little construction progress; there are alignment problems north of Trikala]
A4: Nikaia I/C – Larisa – Trikala [Only a small section between Nikaia I/C and Larisa is open, which is below standard but has to be a motorway as there is exclusive connection from/to the A1. It seems unclear if the Larisa – Trikala section will be signed as motorway or remains an upgraded part of NR6]
A5: AL border, Ktismata – Kalpaki - Ioannina - Arta - Amfilohia – Amvrakia – Aggelokastro Mesologgi - Antirrio - Rio - Patra - Kato Ahaļa - Andravida - Pyrgos – Tsakona [Open sections: Arta bypass (Filippiada – Arta – Petas), Agrinio bypass (Kouvaras – Aggelokastro – Kefalovryso), Antirrio – Rio – Patra (Harilaos Trikoupis Bridge and Patra bypass // Construction of section Pyrgos – Taskona is doubtful]
A6: Elefsina – Magoula – Ano Liosia – Athina – Pallini – Paiania – Koropi – Markopoulo
A7: Korinthos – Tripoli - Megalopoli – Lefktro - Tsakona – Kalamata [Unfinished section south of Megalopoli will open within the next few weeks with the exception of the Paradeisia – Tsakona part that will open in 2013]
A8: Elefsina - Megara - Korinthos - Aigio - Rio – Patra [Section Korinthos – Patra is under upgrade but with little progress]
A11: Shimatari – Halkida
A12: Velestino – Volos [Number A12 has been allocated to upgraded NR6, but it is doubtful if it will be signed as motorway as there are currently some sub-standard sections]
A13: Elefsina – Thiva [Planned]
A20: Alexandroupoli I/C – Alexandroupoli [Although this spur is connected only from/to the A2, it is doubtful if it will be signed as motorway]
A22: Lefkonas – Serres – Drama – Kavala [Planned]
A25: Potidaia Bridge – Nea Moudania - Nea Kallikrateia – Kalamaria - Thessaloniki East Ring Road – Efkarpia – Langadas - Dorkada - Lefkonas - Promahonas, BG border [Sections under construction: Strymoniko – Lefkonas – Hristos and Sidirokastro – Neo Petritsi. If the Thessaloniki External Bypass will be constructed, the A25 will follow this, leaving current East Ring Road as motorway A2x or A12x. Section south of Thessaloniki has not been signed as motorway yet]
A27: Kozani - Ptolemaļda – Amyntaio - Vevi - Florina – Niki, MK border [Sections Amyntaio – Vevi and Florina – Niki are planned; section Vevi – Florina is sub-standard]
A29: AL border, Krystalopigi - Kastoria - Argos Orestiko – Siatista [Section north of Kastoria is under construction]
A52: Amvrakia – Aktio [Under construction]
A62: Koropi – Athens International Airport
A63: Ilioupoli – Ymittos Tunnel – Paiania [Planned; number A63 is not certain]
A64: Argyroupoli – Ilioupoli – Papagou – Agia Paraskevi – Pallini – Pikermi [Section Argyroupoli – Papagou is planned]
A65: Ano Liosia – Aspropyrgos – Skaramangas [Section Aspropyrgos – Skaramangas has not opened, while works have ceased]
A71: Lefktro – Sparti [Under construction]
A90: Kastelli Kissamou - Hania - Rethymno – Irakleio – Gournes - Agios Nikolaos [Only section Kastelli Kissamou – Gournes has been signed as motorway; most of the road is sub-standard with planned upgrade]
A121: Kalohori – Thessaloniki West Ring Road – Efkarpia [Number A121 is uncertain; planned upgrade of existing unnumbered national road]
A141: Larisa: Viokarpet Spur [Number A141 is uncertain; a small spur between A4 and NR1]
A581: Patra: Glafkos I/C – New Port [Under construction; only a small section near the A5 is open]
A642: Athens: Halandri-Doukissis Plakentias I/C - Agia Paraskevi
1: Athina – Nea Filadelfeia – Metamorfosi – Agios Stefanos – Malakasa – Avlonas – Oinofyta – Shimatari – Kastro – Martino – Skala Atalantis – Agios Konstantinos – Kammena Vourla – Molos – Thermopyles – Lamia – Stylida – Rahes – Pelasgia – Almyros – Velestino – Nikaia – Larisa – Tempi – Platamonas – Leptokarya – Katerini – Aiginio – Alexandreia – Halkidona – Gefyra – Kastanas – Polykastro – Evzonoi, MK border [Some sections which were replaced by the A1 should be reinstated by the motorway’s service roads or older sections which were replaced when the ‘new’ national road had been construceted]
1a: Agia Marina – Stylida – Karavomylos [‘New’ national road section that will not be replaced by the A1 as the motorway will follow a new alignment north ot Stylida]
2: AL border, Krystallopigi – Vatohori – Pisoderi – Florina – Vevi – Amyntaio – Peraia – Arnissa – Edessa – Giannitsa – Halkidona – Agios Athanasios – Diavata – Thessaloniki – Liti – Langadikia – Asprovalta – Limenas Amfipolis – Loutra Eleftheron – Kavala – Toxotes – Xanthi – Porto Lagos – Komotini – Sapes – Mesti – Alexandroupoli – Feres – Ardani – Kipoi, TR border [Section Thessaloniki – Liti should be reinstated by the A2/A25 service road; Sections Vevi – Giannitsa and Limenas Amfipolis – Kavala follow the ‘new’ national roads]
3: Elefsina – Thiva – Leivadia – Amfikleia – Bralos – Lamia – Domokos – Neo Monastiri – Farsala – Larisa – Tyrnavos – Elassona – Sarantaporos – Servia – Kozani – Pontokomi – Ptolemaļda – Amyntaio – Vevi – Florina – Niki, MK border [‘New’ national road between Tyrnavos and Elassona]
4: Alexandreia – Veroia – Kastania – Polymylos – Kozani

6: Volos – Velestino – Rizomylos – Platykampos – Larisa – Farkadona – Trikala – Kalampaka – Hani Mourngani – Katara – Metsovo – Ioannina – Neraļda – Igoumenitsa [Volos – Velestino section may be replaced by the A12; Larisa – Trikala section may be replaced by the A4; in such case NR6 should be reinstated by the motorways’ service roads and some older sections]
6 Spur: Eleousa Spur: NR6 – NR20
7: Korinthos – Nemea – Argos – Myloi – Ahladokampos – Tripoli – Megalopoli – Allagi – Kalamata
8: Athina – Skaramangas – Elefsina – Megara – Isthmia – Korinthos – Kiato – Xylokastro – Derveni – Aigio – Rio – Patra [‘Old’ national road west of Elefsina; section Athina – Elefsina cannot be assigned as motorway as there is no alternative for non-motorway traffic between Skaramangas and Elefsina]

The first one is part of the A90 - one of the few completed;the second one is a new alignment of national road 97 - I think most of it is already open, but I am not sure; the last one will be a new alignment of the northern axis but it is unclear up to now, if it will be an extension of the A90 or a new alignment (with better technical characteristics) of national road 90.

These photos are from all over the A7 motorway.
You can see the beginning of the new part to Kalamata, in the second picture.
It is said that it will be given to traffic in a few days.

These areas are not bus stops.
They are just small rest areas. We call them, parking spots.
You can stop there to get some rest, or in case of car problem, you can move there to be safer than to stand at the shoulder.
