Photorealistic 3D view of Kalamata bypass which is scheduled to be completed in the end of 2014.

I have to say the traffic depicted on the video is way too optimistic...

I guess that below video has been posted again but it is worthy to promote such an impressive highway

A2 (Egnatia Odos) Ioannina - Grevena.
Just enjoy the sequence of tunnels (34 twin tunnels - with many more that 1,5Km) and viaducts between 1:14 and 6:29 via an alpine surrounding.

Metsovitikos Viaduct

Araxthos Viaduct (when it was under construction)

Votonosio viaduct

Megalorematos viaduct

This is not the only part of Egnatia with sequence of tunnel. Many tunnel also exists in sections Igoumenitsa - Ioannina (close to Dodoni I/C) and Kozani - Veroia (close to Polimilos I/C). Just for the records, across the A2 highway 50 twins tunnel (~total length 100Km) and ~42Km of viaducts have been constructed.

Egnatia Odos was a great revolution in transport in Northern Greece. Ioannina - Thessaloniki was 5 hours before highway construction and 2h15min now.

It was left out of the recent contracts that were signed in order to restart the works on the A1, A3, A5 (north) and A8. However, there is some effort to include this on a list of state-found projects. In fact the motorway will NOT be called A9, but it will be the southern part of the A5 (Patras bypass has been already signed as A5).

I guess that part of A5 (formerly known as A9) will be built someday, most likely not in the next years, as the current road ist not that bad, especially the northern part (from Patras to Pirgos). But it's needed for tourism in that region and tourism brings money

EO9 between Patra and Pyrgos is not in fact bad (has one 'and a half' lane in each direction and long straight stretches), but it is an accident black spot, due to high speeds and the lack of controlled access. The latter results that even slow agricultural tractors and other vehicles can cross it here and there. The EO9 section between Pyrgos and Kyparissia and the EO9a between Kyparissia and the A7 are above Greek average too and with low traffic volumes. The hesitation for building the motorway is mainly due to these low traffic volumes (the same appears in the case of the A3).

I read a news article about new toll taxes in Greece. For example, if you want to go from Thessaloniki to Athens, you should pay 58 euros, which is 2 times than the previous price of about 25. Do you have any additional information about the other motorways, not just about PATHE?

According to what is written in this article - "up to 60% increase". Which is not the case for A1, it's 100% increase.

OK, it seems that previous article is from a crappy source. Here, from this article in Greek I understood that there will be small increase only for some stations in northern part of A1, known as Aegean motorway (Thessaloniki - Lamia). This is only valid for category 2 vehicles. For cat 3 and 4 vehicles there will be decrease in some toll stations, info here. Did not manage to find whether there will be increase in some of the toll stations in south part of A1.

Thessaloniki - Athens is about 500 kilometers, so € 58 would translate to € 0.116 per kilometer. Which is quite high, but not extreme (some French toll roads charge more). The question really is if this alleged toll fee is compatible with the average Greek income. I don't think it is. It would be a huge barrier to travel within Greece.

Thessaloniki-Athens is about 29 euros one way and 58 with return.

Now that the negotiations with the concessions/refinancing on the A1 are complete when do the concessionaires intend to complete the missing sections of A1, particularly the tunnels in Tempi, 2016 ? 2018 ?? 2020 ????

The authorities have announced (in fact what they hope) that the Tempi - Platamonas section will be ready by May 2015, the section around Lamia by October 2015 and the Stylida bypass by December 2015. Personally, I am not too sure.

Nobody forces drivers to pay toll. For every toll motorway there is always an alternative, toll-free road. Even for crossing over from Rio to Antirrio and vice versa, there are still ferries for those who do not want to pay for the bridge.

That's not really an argument. The purpose of a toll motorway is to get people and goods safely and quickly from A to B, not to make it unaffordable for most. With that kind of arguing, you could justify any tolls.

It's worth mentioning that Greece has one of the worst traffic fatality rates in Europe, even having worse traffic safety than many eastern European countries.
