Yarrick that news is rox!! Let's hope we start seeing some concrete plans coming to fruiton!

I have tried to look for the article online but to no avail. I must definitely go out and seek it then. It's the FM, right?

As for the Seers - I was actually wondering about that today, too. I am sure they have done enough basement-digging now? They need to start going up dammit..

A drive through Sandton:

Graystone drive/ corner of Rivonia

The Axis is topped out, 7F, pretty standard.

Next to the Axis another building is going up, might be parking, might be more.

The new investec offices are up to 7F, still rising.

Accross from investec, demolition completed on old building. new offices going up, no renders just fencing.

Now we go to benmore:
Benmore mall undergoing major refurbishment.

Sunset Towers (11F) topping out.
Behind them a new basement for another residential being dug.
Topaz (9F) and Jade (9F) being built.
Regent (12F) rising nicely as well.

Rivonia:
The Holiday Inn surpassed the 10F mark (seeing piling for floor 11)
The Radisson rising nicely as well.
Corner of Pretoria road - Gautrain works progressing nicely.
Upper Rivonia - towards Rosebank - Gautrain works for the Sandton Station in full swing.

Maude:
Cement trucks drive in and out Seers Site - they are working here people.
Nedbank busy building something as well, no idea what - now we know - its the LaResidence!
The small site next to the Forum is actually not that small. It can easily handle a 3F parkade - with offices on top. Either the Forum will just add parking, or we can expect something cute on this corner.

Fredman:
New 15F building next to Fredman Towers to be completed in 2009. 8F office, 7F parking.

RMB busy with a mega-refurbishment, demolition. Gwen lane is closed for traffic - an entire block is getting an extreme make-over.

Behind the Hydro another 7 - 9F office building going up - basement is currently being dug.

West Street:
Next to Bowman Gillfillan a new 10 - 12F building going up. Nice, modern design. And the shafts for the elevators are going up.
Behind this an old, facebrick, 9F building is getting a much needed renovation.

Alice street:
The new 7F office block for ABSA Capital is getting its final touches - only 7F, but huge.
On the corner with Sandton drive the massive 1 Sandton is topped out - and getting its final touches. New buildings going up to the left.

I will post pics soon: but as you can see sandton is booming.

Manage to trace the owners of the 7F building in Alice Lane. It will be the new headquarters for Absa Capital. a 6F office with a 1F superbasement - 1000 parking bays.

i don't know how many of you managed to go to the Pam Golding show that was held in Sandton during the first week of November 2007. They announced the La Residence, Sandton, which is a 25 floor building that is going to be built right in front of Nedbank's corporate head office on Maude street.

You should already see some fencing and digging going on right opposite Village Walk. I will scan the pictures i have and post here. The idea is that Nedbank will be building the first 7 floors which will comprise their offices and the rest of the 18 floors will be residential component. Construction is expected to be completed in mid 2009.

Creation of great city park in Sandton proposed
22 May 2006 - Inet Bridge -

Intro
A city park, involving investment of at least a R1bn, is on the cards for the heart of Sandton

By Nick Wilson
A city park, involving investment of at least a R1bn, is on the cards for the heart of Sandton.

The Sandton Chronicle reported last week that 26ha of council-owned open land in Parkmore, Sandton, including the Field and Study Recreation Centre, had been earmarked for urban development "incorporating a great city park".

The Field and Study Recreation Centre is situated on 17ha of land and was originally bought by the then Sandton Town Council in the 1970s at the urging of the Sandton Civic Foundation. The purpose of the centre was to study the environment. It has since evolved into a recreation centre and provides a range of courses and activities.

The fixed properties of the centre consist of a farmhouse, which is a heritage building, and four other buildings.

Alan Dinnie, the project manager of the City of Joburg Property Company (JPC), the property arm of the City of Johannesburg, confirms that over the past two years, the JPC has been investigating the greater area with a view to creating a great city park.

The site is bordered by River Club to the east, the Forest Farm centre for cerebral palsied adults to the west, and the William Nicol highway to the south.

Dinnie says the JPC earmarked a 5ha portion of the site to the west of the Braamfontein Spruit for development. At one stage, a development lease was signed for a possible theme park, but this fell through.

He says that when the JPC began investigating the ?best use of land? for the 5ha portion, it became clear it would not be a good idea to look at the piece of land in isolation from all the adjoining land.

Dinnie says the site is "unique" in that it is on a river and has a "country feel to it".

But there is a huge commercial development drive along William Nichol, and the JPC's model for development of the park is that commercial development on its fringes will subsidise the capital and operational costs. "We would develop only as much as was needed to create the park," Dinnie says.

The JPC is aware that a great city park, such as London's Hyde Park or New York's Central Park, would require a lot of money to develop, maintain and secure. A good source of funding could be commercial development. Dinnie says the development would result in an investment of at least R1bn in the area.

"We don't know what size of land would be needed for development to actualise the vision. We have started talks with internal role players. The only agreement we have is to investigate the area. There is no agreement to develop. We are a long way off."

He says agreement may be reached on a final development concept by the end of the year. "We are going to appoint consultants. We will do the base investigations and then we'll initiate ? consultation," he says.

Rose Johnson, the chairwoman of the recreation centre, says the west bank of the Braamfontein Spruit - part of the centre - needs development of some kind to secure it.

But she is concerned about commercial development encroaching on to the centre's fields. "Parks and open spaces are irreplaceable resources," she says.

Some pics from the refurbished Sandton Towers on Fifth

Its kitch, its bling, its OTT. Very Dallas 1980's - but for some odd reason, I love it!

The 20F atrium

The waterfall stayed - glad they kept it

Looking up - those elevators are fun

The new foyer

Yes, the construction boom in Sandton is amazing. There is a crane everywhere you look.

What will Sandton Skyline look like from M1 in 2010, as FNB would say with 2010 SWC "Start Imagining"

1. Sandton City
2. MichaleAngelo
3. Radisson
4. The Seers
5. LaResidence
6. RMB Building
7. 15 Fredman

I wonder what is to follow, will the JSE decide to up their nice glassy building? With all the property demolitions in Sandton, are we gonna see more 20+ floors to come. Only time will tell.
