I've read somewhere something about a DSU. Is this needed for the renovation of the eastbound lanes, and if so, would it delay the renovation? According to GDDKiA, it's supposed to start this spring.

Well, it is all about the infamous Natura 2000. Now almost whole stretch od DK18 is covered with it. And yes, this means delays.

I was just thinking about the excessive amount of noise screens in Poland. You guys have way more than we have in Western Europe.

The main reason is this;

In Western Europe, most urban and rural high-speed roads pre-date the noise laws that were generally introduced in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Existing situations never had the need to take measures against traffic noise, unless there's some kind of reconstruction.
However, in Poland, all situations are "new" and fall directly under noise laws, so measures to prevent noise have to be taken in many situations, especially in areas with densely populated countryside like Slask and Mazowiecki.

If Western Europe was obliged to check every existing situation and has to take measures if noise levels are exceeded, I'm sure we would have to build thousands of kilometers of noise screens as well. You guys just have the unfortunate situation (from a motorist point of view) of having many new urban and rural roads that fall in the noise laws era.

Yes I agree with you.
But this situation with anti-noise policy require from Polish government a huge amount of money to built new roads. We also have problems with ring roads and bypass roads going through national parks, biosphere green zones and etc. According this new eco-policy we are going slower and more expensive with new infrastructure compare to the Western Europe.
Of course we will have less noise, more natural environment which should be use for increase tourist visits from western countries and make more money on then

I'm gonna have to agree on limiting DK roads - let's keep it to GP and above.

About noise barriers, as mappero stated, unfortunately the problem is the cost, it adds onto the cost and makes construction slower.. if we could just bypass that (no pun intended ) that'd be great.

Come on, not everyone is wanting to dive through and find specific road threads on FPW. In addition FPW is in Polish while most of other forums are bilingual

It was a slip of a finger.

Those forums are mostly Polish, but there have been "intrusions". Intruders are welcome, I guess.

Some of Szarów-Tarnów just started, at least on maps. In reality real construction will start in couple of months or so.

A18, tender procedures are getting delayed... Hopefully they will manange to sort it all out before Euro, what a shame it would be, 70 years old concrete on one part

When is the Bełk-Swierklany section of the A1 expected to be completed and open for use? Work on this section seems to be painfully slow

November 2010.

For me it is neither fast nor slow, just normal.

---------------

Soon whole A4 between Szarów and Tarnów will be U/C (ca. 50 km)

It is a real speed up comparing to the previous decades when there were only plans and fantasy deadlines which never came true back in the days. Now it's a reality

Is it true that the PPP for A1 Stryków - Pyrzowice has failed? If so, what are the consequences for the completion of this section of A1?
