Good to see the Slovakian capital signed on the S69 but
Zwardoń PL SK doesn't need to be there. When will Poland get over the obsession of signing minor border towns/villages like Kołbaskowo PL D, Kostrzyn PL D, Słubice PL D, Świecko PL D, Olszyna PL D, Jędrychowice PL D, Łysa Polana PL SK, Korczowa PL UA, Medyka PL UA, Terespol PL BL, Budzisko PL LT? I bet that the overhead gantry and roadside signs at the Krzyżowa interchange are still saying Olszyna PL D and Jędrychowice PL D rather than Berlin (A18) or Dresden (A4)?

This 'obsession', as you call it, stems from the laws and instructions governing how signs should be drawn up.
We are working on scrapping this idiotic requirement and replacing it with a common sense instruction that will honour and recognise the fact that, believe it or not, there is a wider world beyond Polish borders. But don't hold your breath just yet because these things take years to get approved.

Unfortunately, it is still there standing proud like a monument to our stupidity.
However, it is due to be taken down by end of Q2 2010 and replaced with signs directing motorists to Dresden and Berlin.

And, oh yes, Olszyna and Jędrzychowice will appear on the new signs.
Until the Law gets changed, there is not a lot one can do.

I bet is the S69 is the most photogenic of Polish highways, at least in the most photogenic environment. Nice job, if only we were progressing that fast with D3.

I'm loving the multi-coloured bridges on the S3 Szcezcin-Gorzów section , Poland is great at building innovative, eye-catching and interesting flyovers and underpasses so much better than the boring concrete bridges on British and European motorways . The S3 looks ready to be opened tomorrow not in September - what is the hold-up caused by? It is bizarre to see the S69 ending in the middle of nowhere on the Slovakian side of the border - but no different to seeing the S11 stop abruptly at Ostrów Wlkp.

You can see some pics of the Russian part of the road on this site. In general, it is a simple 1x2 without flyovers.

I'm possibly going to Kaliningrad around May, any idea if it will be open by then? I'd love to use the Berlinka

This is what the European Union says about it:

Quote:
Mamonovo II

3.5. In the light of enlargement, particular attention is being paid to the issue of Kaliningrad. The situation at the Kaliningrad/Polish border is satisfactory in Mamonovo I (constructed in 1994) and good in Bagrationovsk (constructed in 2003 with CBC funds). The current infrastructure in these two border posts fulfils the requirement for customs operations today. However, the road to Mamonovo I has a weight limit of 6 tons. Therefore, the Russian Federation and Poland have agreed on the need to establish an additional crossing point at Mamonovo capable of handling substantial heavy road traffic. A bilateral intergovernmental agreement was signed in June 2003 to that effect. Tacis will therefore support the construction of a completely new border crossing, responding to modern management practices, at Mamonovo II to replace the Gronovo-Mamonovo I as an international crossing. The new border post is part of the Pan European Transport Corridor I Branch A (Riga-Kaliningrad-Gdansk).

3.6. Tacis will support both the construction of this border crossing and the border post will also be provided with basic equipment including furniture, telephones and computers provided the available budget is sufficient;

polish highway projects -amazing

I am really amazed on the huge efforts being made by the poles twards
Upgrading thier highway system. well done!
When looking on the pre 1989 suituation I was suprised to see how the soviet infuenced then poland could not do much during those years, and the little streaches of freeways were actually Greman reichsbahn ones.
Anyway , this is the most great reconstructing effort I saw in the area.
well done.
