Any news on the official opening dates of the A1 (B-S), A8 (E67-L),
S8 (K-TP) and S3 (M-GW)?
I read somewhere the date of 15th Dec for the above roads being open for use

Yes, there are at least a couple of examples of Warszawa being signed on the A4:

Good News

Since January we go faster!

Increasing the speed limit on highways from the current 130 km / h to 140 km / h on dual carriageways - with 110 km / h to 120 km / h and including removal from the Polish roads dummy cameras - implies revision of the Law on Road Traffic.

Amendments to the Act, adopted by the Sejm on 29 October., Was signed by President Bronislaw Komorowski. Her records are to come into effect from 1 January 2011.

According to the regulation on motorways and dual carriageways have been increased speed limits of 10 km / h. Remained unchanged while the speed limit at which you can ride to the other Polish roads.

Amendments to the Act also assumes that the Polish roads are dummy cameras disappear, and these cameras will be clearly marked and visible so that they primarily acted as a preventive and contribute to improving road safety.

Under the new provisions, all cameras from the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways is to take the Road Transport Inspection. Fire communal (municipal) will not be able to put dummy cameras on the roads, or installation without a recording device, and its employees will be able to make checks on all roads outside towns, and besides, the site only on municipal roads, county and province. National road safety cameras can be installed only by the Inspectorate of Road Transport, at the request of local government.

140 km / h, and the mentality of drivers
Polish road infrastructure is prepared to raise speed limits on motorways or dual carriageways, still remains the problem of driver behavior - so GDDKiA spokesman Martin commented Hadaj adoption by the Parliament of amendments to the Law on Road Traffic. more »

These provisions are essential to the creation of a system of automatic traffic surveillance, which connects to one network, all the cameras. It is primarily to accelerate the procedures related to the transmission, processing, analysis and the determination of images of road pirates. Road Transport Inspection I received the money for this project from the European Union. As he said in late October PAP Marcin Flieger of ITD, it is planned that the system will be launched as early as July 2011 Photos from the cameras will appeal to the central computer, and the system will be connected with the Central Register of Vehicles and Drivers, so that is easier and faster determine the owner of the car.
Ultimately, the cameras also are to be found in all masts, including those that were not yet prepared for, but empty.

The amendment also extends the investigation of fine from 60 to 180 days, which the authors intended the law to relieve the borough courts, where he hit the case, which failed to fix the driver.

Well, what`s important is how people drive in general but police in our coutries always "cares" about maximum speed. So they should start to care about safety in general and than about speed but on the other hand when we (Slovakia) decreased speed limit from 60 to 50 we had 30% less people who died.

But was the fatality reduction related to the speed limit decrease? Slovakia's traffic safety has improved drastically.

As for Poland, I think 120 km/h on 2x2 S-roads is a very good decision, but 140 km/h on A-roads is not that necessary in my opinion.

Awesome news about those stupid grey cameras being removed!!! Will all of them be removed? And what colour will be the new ones? Here in the UK we have yellow and will it be the same as a sign saying in 500m camera speed check will take place? I hope so because me and my Dad drove through Polska this summer and it was like having a mini heart attack those cameras sneaking up on us every 10 km!! Think they caused more harm than good in the majority of road vehicle users.

Two major problems for Poland in terms of traffic are drunk driving and overspeeding on non modernised DK roads that carry long range journeys. The latter is a result of virtually non-existent spatial planning for decades (major national roads leading through villages, mixing with local traffic and pedestrians - Poland has extremely high pedestrian fatality rate).

Since Polish 2x2 S roads are very high standard, 120 seems sensible, 10 kph increase for A roads doesn't seem to bring much risk. I actually doubt the change would make any difference in reality.

There's another important fact about these changes.
Currently, we can exceed the speed limit by 5km/h. It will increase to 10km/h, because authorities want us to focus on driving, not on controlling the speed.
As a result, we'll be able to drive 60km/h in cities, 130km/h on S-roads and 150km/h on A-roads - LEGALLY .
It's very unlikely that the changes will positively influence on the road safety .

Of course, but undeniably it's one of the factors...

I really don't think raising the speed limit on motorways is going to influence mean speed on those roads. I really doubt that there are drivers driving on a motorway 130km/h and thinking "Oh, I wish the speed limit was higher, because I want to go faster". When someone wants to go faster, they do, because safety penalty and risk of being caught is nonexistent compared to low class roads.
