Thanks, PLH. Nice info. How is the surface of this road. Is it normal concrete or asphalt, or is it old concrete slabs?

normal asphalt and it was renovated recently. I think that few sections from Piotrkow (near Piotrkow) to Warsaw is made of concrete.

About the concrete on Gierkówka:
Yeah, it's quite decent, although it feels a little shaky when driving...
It was laid in 1990's on a 30-km stretch somewhere between Piotrków Trybunalski and Tomaszów Mazowiecki, as a proof-of-concept. The authorities were deciding what technology to use on upcoming construction of autobahns, and wanted to know, if the modern concrete-paving technologies can be applied in Poland. Seems they liked what they got, because they chose to pave all of the new and renovated autobahns on Lower Silesia with concrete. Others are asphalted, though...

It looks great! But why isn't it called a motorway yet? The shoulders look a bit narrow, but that's all.

Because of this

This road will never be marked as a highway, but it is highly likely to become an expressway(flyovers, 110 km/h) before 2012

You're absolotely right.
Anyway, renovation of A4 near Wrocław and building the northern lane of A18 (both concrete) happened after that. I remebered the sequence right, only the date was wrong.

Unlike in Czech Republic we didn't built almost any concrete roads between 1945 and 1989

If You're intrested, here is the Gierkówka(as it is called) road plan:

Damn Communists and their anti-concrete road agenda in Poland. Seems like you guys really got the shaft during the Cold War vs. other satellite states.

Surely when compared to Czech Republic or Hungary

Still, concrete roads in Poland are/were not so popular because of relatively low labour price - it's cheaper to built a road cheaply(using asphalt) and then repair it after some time. Now the situation is changing and I hope there'll be more concrete roads in Poland, as now we have only around 220 km of such roads

One more time about "Gierkowka" (was build by Gierek), the 2x2 DK-road between Warszawa and Ustron (not Bielsko-Biala, like PLH said).
As you can see on the map on the previous page, only the Piotrkow-Czestochowa-section (80 km) will be upgraded to A1-motorway. From Czestochowa to the Czech-border the A1 will go westward of Gierkowka. So the Czestochowa-Ustron(Bielsko)-section will at first stay a DK-road (some intersections with traffic lights, without flyovers).
The Warszawa-Piotrkow-section of Gierkowka (130 km) will be upgraded to S8-expresway.

Not exactly. Gierkówka is leading to Ustroń, and the roadnumber is 81 not 1, as many poeople think(road leads through Żory and jastrzębie zdrój, as marked here:[very long link]\

S6: Szczecin-Goleniów-Koszalin-Słupsk-Lębork-Gdynia-Gdańsk

Szczecin-Goleniów already exists - it's S3/6, you may find it in this thread.

Słupsk bypass (picture posted by Alchemik):

They already have building permit, but no bidding for the contract yet.

And the Słupsk bypass is gonna be just 1x2, only at interchanges marked with yellow dots it will be 2x2. The reason for that is the anticipated traffic volume
Not mentioning the fact that the southern route of the bypass is completely senseless - instead of going through abandoned fields north of the city, it runs through a dense and beautiful forest in the south (northern route would be cheaper too)
