Today it's 75 years ago the A4 opened to traffic west of Wroclaw. It was built by the nazi regime, when Lower Silesia was a part of the German Reich. It was opened exactly 3 years after the nazis commenced their Reichsautobahn construction on September 23rd, 1933.

Well, I wish they could complete all sections there before the war had broken.

Well, war broke because we hadn't allowed them to build Reichsautobahn.

Very good news. All sections of S8 between Wroclaw and Lodz now have construction permits, tenders have been completed, offers selected. Now we are awaiting results of verification.

We may have over 100km of additional concrete expressway U/C pretty soon.

This is a sand dune proper, so I'm not sure you'd like to build a road through it

I'm sure it would be better to build the S1 I suggested along the western edge of the sand dune. Since it turns out that it's not natural after all, I suggest that the sand be sold for industrial use and the area restored to nature.

Cool! I love that map and the opportunity to follow the progress of both current and future road construction. Although I can understand it, I do wish the legend were bilingual.

Can we expect that section of the S8 to open in 2014?

Average real construction time of motorway/expressway in Poland is 2-2,5 years.

From award of the contract or from ground-breaking?

Is the A1 from the A4 interchange to DK88 (Gliwice eastern bypass) ready to be opened for use tomorrow (26th Sept 2011). A key stretch of motorway to further alleviate congestion in and around Gliwice and Zabrze .
The A8 (Wrocław airport-DK5) and the S3 (Parłówko-Troszyn) still not showing on www.zumi.pl

The A1 section Gliwice Sosnica(A4)- DK88 will be open in first week of october.
The builders made last works there (street lamps, painting lines etc.).
www.zumi.pl have always delay at showing new roads, www.targeo.pl too.

Unfortunately pace of this development already slowed down. S8 is exception here (one of the few roads not affected by the cuts).

Yes, but when the roads now under construction and out for tender have been completed, Poland will have a good (though not fully developed) road network. It seems to me that the most salient missing link at that time will be completion of the S7 between Warsaw and Krakow, but I'm sure there are others, not so obvious to me, which will be equally important.
