Is there an opening date for the A4 from Szarów to Brzesko via Bochnia yet?
I believe it is supposed to be completed in December 2011 with the extension to Tarnów opened by January 2012.
www.zumi.pl is still hopelessly out of date with regards to new motorways and expressways

No chance for that. Entire construction notes significant delay. It should be opened somwhere around May 2012 but without ~20 km-long Wierzchosławice- Tarnów section. The contractor had not been able to fulfill the agreement in frames of existing schedule and the contract was finally dissolved. Since then a new contractor has been selected but I don't know when finally they are going to execute their task. Probably sowhere around December 2012 or even later.

Actually, S74 runs between functional city centre and northern districts (flats and indtustrial district on the western side of railway). It's somewhat like S8 in Warsaw.

It's not a bad idea, although it might look like. With all respect for Kielce, it is a medium-sized city. This expressway should serve the city and transit properly for longer than decade.

After that we're gonna be rich enough to build eastern bypass of Kielce along S73, mirroring S7 .

Nice overview (Skyscrapercity needs a spoiler option perhaps).

Are there already opening dates for;

* A4 around Rzeszów
* S19 Jasionka - Rzeszów
* S69 in Bielsko-Biala
* S74 in Kielce

As far as I know these are suppose to open this or next month.

You can always find the most up-to-date information in this post:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...9&postcount=16

Columns from left to right: road number, section, length, opening date according to the contract, expected opening date, days added (or subtracted) from the original date, days until opening, days late, investor, contractor.
Red icon next to opening date means it's impossible and will certainly be delayed.

New road surface (right now it's in really bad shape, very old concrete that's painful to drive on) and added emergency lanes between Kijewo (DK10) and Rzęśnica (DW142). In the second phase a new interchange will be built with Tczewska street.

If I'm not mistaken, that road section is close to Warsaw (see skyscrapers in the background on some shots). I've actually seen thick air pollution layers while arriving by plane into some other European urban agglomerations, where high density of cars is present.

Why do you assume it would've come from coal burning? Because coal is Poland's main fossil fuel re energy production? Well, as far as I know, there's one larger coal-fired power station in that area. Besides, today's Warsaw is not London in the fifties (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Smog), when people were still heating houses pre-dominantly by means of coal-fired stoves.

Also, here's some stats on the air pollution in Poland, which should be considered in relation to the significant growth of Poland's GDP over the last decade and large increase in the number of motor vehicles:
- total CO2 emmissions in EU-27,
- total emmissions of air pollutants in the EU,
- air pollutant emmissions in the EU per capita,
- country's GDP figures in 2000-09,
- registered passenger cars in the EU in 2005-09 (CSO Poland, page 203)

All of that certainly doesn't exclude the fact that Poland still has much to do in terms of the improvement of environment pollution (especially re the sulphur oxides' emmissions).

Great piece of motorway and beautiful video indeed (so relaxing and tranquil). In particular I enjoyed the part with the river bed scenery.

No, I believe it's near Katowice.

Coal-fired power plants produce a lot more pollution that do cars manufactured in this century. I realize that Poland has significant numbers of cars built in the 1990s, but the really horrible (in terms of pollution) cars produced in the Soviet bloc are nearly all off the road now.
