I think next week we can reasonably expect to see completion of:
- the foundation for Section C,
- the binder layer for Section A, and
- the asphalt for Section B.

There is a chance that the A2 will be open on section C, but the interchange with DK50 (used to be called Wiskitki, official exit name Żyrardów) will not be open. Check back before you leave...

They aim to travel from near Frankfurt an der Oder (just inside the Polish border) to the Lithuanian border on Tuesday 5 June, and then nearly 3 weeks later, from Lithuania to Radom on Monday 25 June.

My thoughts are that their plans are ambitious (I've heard that the queues through Augustow can be long, for example), but they're convinced that the travel times are realistic. What do you all think? I'm guessing that Euro 2012 won't affect things too much on either date but again I'm happy to be proved wrong...

Many thanks!
Frankfurt Oder to Kaunas Lithuania can be achieved in 8 to 9 hours at weekends. Less if you exceed permitted speeds. More in the week. I do this journey every year. Last year I was at Coquelles, France at 10pm and passed the Polish border by 9am next day, Kaunas at 5pm. I wasn't really trying so could be done quicker. If Strykow Konotopa segment is driveable then reduce by 1 hour. Don't know where the other place "Radom" is so can't help you with that. On single carriageway roads be very careful with overtaking. People come at you from both directions (front and back) if you are not quick.

Remarkable progress in the 21/05 report.
I think the critical path is the section A asphalt - all 26/30 km of it (only 13% so far)
Hopefully equipment is deployed from other completed sections to speed section A completion. But they are supposed to be working 24/7 on this so I would expect some pleasant surprises.

Depends on the embankment materials. Clays and soft ground require much more time. Sandier materials consolidate much quicker. If the embankment sinks faster than the bridge abbutments, they will just bung a bit more asphalt onto the bridge approaches to level up the surface.

Otherwise, I've done this journey many times and it isn't all that bad... Go via Lomza (exit S8/DK8 near Zambrow or Ostrow Mazowiecka), don't go all the way to Bialystok, not worth it yet. It depends how long you sleep, but if you leave in the early morning of day 1, you will be there by the evening of day 2. I usually stay in Poznan, it is a good half-way point and there are some good, cheap hostels there.
Very good advice. This is the route I use too.

Thank you for the warning, I will definitely check before I leave. Otherwise I'll have to exit at an interchange before that (the DK70, I guess). Gonna have to see how far section C will be by then anyway. It might be open then.

I'm not sure which is the best road from Lithuania to Warsaw (probably road DK8 / S8 (E67)), but from Warsaw to Radom road is quite simple: DK7 / S7 expressway (E77). So you have to head on Warszawa first, than in Warszawa you have to head on Kraków. 100 km pleasant road and you are in Radom

Video relation from A2 Stryków - Konotopa by @zielaczek.
It took him about 7 hours to do this trip on bike (110km), amazing dedication, unfortunately comment is in polish.

Is this a real plan? That would be a nice urban expressway.

The "obwodnica południowa" is currently under construction and should open in the late summer this year as S7.

The road going from this stretch up north is also under construction including the first tunnel under the vistula river till the new stadium. The northern part through Sopot and continuation towards Hamburg is not considered yet. This will be probably more a long term future project.

There are several things that make this "plan" impossible to build, atleast for 30 or so years. The "tunel" next to SOPOT would go through hilly terrain of very bad quality when it comes to tunneling through it. The soil is very wet and building a tunnel there is considered uneconomical (ie. the costs are way bigger then the benefits). Also, the people of the area west of that tunnel, weren't quite keen on having a road there. They successfully torpedoed the idea of having the Trasa Lęborska (part of S6) end in their neighborhood. Without these 2 pieces, building the sea-side part doesn't make much sense. Personally I just don't see an expressway fitting in there right on the coast, there are better ways to use that land.

edit:
Also, the idea was that this wasn't to be an urban expressway but a transit corridor for people going along the Baltic sea. The words next to "Obwodnica Południowa" (Southern Beltway) say "Plany zawieszone" (plans suspended). Plans changed, there are still ideas to perhaps build it in future, but with Obwodnica Południowa being almost completed, the OMT (Obwodnica Metropolitalna Trójmiasta) concept (realistic), it's purpose has changed.
I also find it slightly ironic that this picture comes from the website (www.osowa.com) of the people who protested it the most.
