The worst is, that it was an announcement made by GDDKiA affiliate in Lodz Having reported this, announcement disappeared in an instant.

I like this solution. Obviously there are better ones available (overpasses, etc.) but in cases where money is an issue or traffic flow is not high enough, the use of such markings and colours makes the road section much clearer. Driving on it would be much less stressful than driving on a similar road section with more standard markings. Good job.

Did they install so many lampposts because it runs more or less parallel to a Warszawa-Chopin runway?

There are two runways. One almost exactly perpendicular to S79, ending just around 200 meters from the edge of expressway and the second one ending around 400-500m in straight line from S2 and S79 intersection. So I guess, that would be a reason to install so many low height lights.

They're now calling for a November 10 opening.

Lights are installed near interchanges (and toll plazas and service areas, but it's irrelevant here), those are bunched up close together on S79 (Lotnisko - MPL Okęcie - Marynarska), hence lampposts everywhere.

I think the important thing is that it will open before the winter weather sets in.

But in this picture the lampposts are shorter than normal. I wonder the same as Chris whether it is the proximity of runways that requires this. Shorter lampposts mean you must place them at shorter intervals to get the same illumination of the road, and the middle lane get worse coverage.

I suppose it's because of runways. We have the same here in Tallinn: http://goo.gl/maps/Fd1wX

Changing all of the warning signs to white background sounds like a money-making scheme to me. Somebody's gonna profit a lot from making new signs, since ALL of them would have to be replaced.. imagine the nightmare of doing that.

I have driven through Poland in all four seasons and never had any problems with the yellow signs. They look quite exotic and cool, I don't mind them at all. Never knew they had plans to change them. Looks dodgy to me.

Of course there is no problem with yellow signs. We just, as someone mentioned before are looking for another unnecessary expenses or just brainlessly follow other countries (most probably Germany).

I see the tender for the missing section of s11 West of Poznan is out. It is good to see the newly opened northern s11 stretch will be hooked up relatively quicker than could be feared. I hate to see 'blind' stretches of road lying underutilized for years and years.

Wasn't a significant stretch of the S7 between Warsaw and Gdańsk opened today, specifically between Olsztynek and Nidzica??
