Sooner or later it will be widened. Not in near future as I know.

A1 near Piotrków Trybunalski was bulit from former DK1 road? DK1 already looks like an exrpressway/motorway minus the at level crossings.

No, it was built from scratch in 1970s (if you mean DK1, short A1 was opened later). It was aligned like a motorway, but the traffic then didn't justify overpasses.

And right now when they upgrade it to a motorway do they rebuilt the foundation or they just built the overpasses?

Nope, it was build on a new route parallel to DK1. Old DK1 (east of current DK1 and future A1) is now signed as DK91.

Part of the new route was build as A1 (western bypass of Piotrków Trybunalski and a bit towards Łódź), but there was not enough money to build the entire route in motorway standard.

BTW, that old existing stretch of A1 will be also demolished now and built as new motorway (2x3 and 2x4) around Piotrków Trybunalski.

It will be rebuilt from scratch as far as we know.

Between Piotrków Trybunalski and Częstochowa current DK1 will be modernized into a motorway (A1). Then A1 will diverge west and bypass Częstochowa in a new corridor, until Pyrzowice where it will join into existing stretch of A1. Current DK1 between "Rząsawa" interchange (Częstochowa-North) and Podwarpie (near Pyrzowice) will be left as is, only renamed into DK91.

No, A1 will go on the current DK1 route, but will be reconstructed to full motorway standard and widened to 2x3. DK 91 will be left as parallel untolled route.

From Częstochowa to Pyrzowice A1 will go on a new route, while DK1 will be left where it is now as parallel route.

So it was built by the Germans then. But was it refurbished or anything since then?
I drove on it in May and I have to say it's in good state for such an old motorway.
That was the infamous "longest staircase of Europe". I drove there in 2003 and there were trucks parked on the right lane because nobody drove that lane anyway, the condition of the pavement could not be described any more positive than "catastrophic".

It was renovated around 2006, but shoulders were not added to the motorway.

Aha, ok. Anyway it's a nice road to drive. There are short shoulder refugee spots from time to time. Most people drove over the 110 limit, so I did that too, mostly 120-130. Traffic wasn't dense, so it was comfortable enough.

I travel on that road in 2009., direction to Germany was reconstructed and superb, but in opposite direction in some section was terrible to drive, not over 50-60 km/h.

I am surprised by how many people in Poland are saying that there is no difference between expressways and motorways in their country.

If the road does not have motorway standard, it should be renamed to S4. That would be consequent!

But I think it doesn't matter. I don't give a tinker's damn about it. Motorway standard does only mean that the road has at least two carriageways with at least 2 lanes in each direction and is grade-separated. I think all Polish S roads should be signed as A roads. The same in other countries like Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Germany,... Pasta!

It's DK18 for the most part. Only the easternmost segment has motorway status and is numbered A18. There is no S18 at this time.

Ok, thanks. Does the entire A4 have motorway standard?

Yes, only the shoulders are narrow or non-existant on the old Reichsautobahn part. It looks like German A11.

No, because it is built on motorway standards. S-roads are not.

The difference is for instance in the maximum radius of vertical and horizontal curves.

But it conforms not with all details to motorway standard, for instance missing hard shoulders.
