I think there remains a good possibility that the S61 bypass of Stawiski might open this year.

It looked like they made a lot of progress in Stawiski when I was driving through it a couple of weeks ago but it would still be very impressive if they finished it by the end of this year.

By the way, it appeared to me that the construction site was wide enough for a 2 + 2 road, though they are only planning a 1 + 1 as far as I know. Do you have any more info?

This is the way of building some less important parts of expressways in Poland. Even though there is only 1+1 built, they make a reserve for 2+2. It is wise in my opinion. Stawiski bypass will be eventually 2+2.

I've driven through there about a dozen times this summer, most recently three days ago. Progress is very rapid and much of it is paved. The main structural beams for the overpass of the little road south of DW648 were set in place about a week ago and they are now constructing the formworks to pour a concrete roadbed over them. Then, as far as I can tell, all the bridgeworks will be complete and only paving will remain as a major task.

A little bit will open as a 2x2 road, but most will open as a 1x2 road with provision for a second carriageway in the future. Until the Lomza bypass has been built, it would be difficult to justify a 2x2 bypass for Stawiski. Upgrading the S8 between Wyszkow and Ostrow Mazowiecka is both more urgent and more important than upgrading any part of the S61 to dual carriageway.

RED - tenders to be announced before the end of August
PURPLE - tenders already announced this year
GREEN - tennders to be announced before the end of this year

2013 = 48 new tenders in total for 730km of expressways at a cost of 35 billion PLN (11.5 billion $).

Wouldn't Ostrow - Wyszkow be of higher priority (higher AADT) on the S8?

Still, good stuff.

I think it should be a higher priority, but perhaps there were technical or bureaucratic or political issues holding it up. I hope the tender will issue early next year and the contract will be signed before the end of 2014.

This stretch is simply not ready for tendering.

What needs to happen for this stretch to become ready?

It is ready for tender, it does have an environmental decision, right?

Construction design documentation (or whatever is it called in English ) is not complete.

By the way, the map is not 100% accurate, half of the green section of S7 already exists.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I guess you mean the bypass of Kielce. I know it's open to traffic, but is it legally complete? Or are temporary restricted speed limits still in place while the final touches are being completed?
